RUK Bacon and Slider

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Oh damn I forgot to get Bacon Wipes..off to the store I go...

I was smart and today invested $40 at Sports Action and bought some Bear Umm. ...I forget what it is called..make them go away with sore eyes stuff...Like mace...

Banjo I picked up one of those number 18's there too..
I am so confused...Moose bear...wolves..snakes....Sasquatch...there is n't enough repelent....Oh that is the word I was looikn for Repelent...

You know the worst thing about Bear repelent it doesn't work from more than 4 meters away..wholy crap!!

Ok time to go and yes I am prepared...I hope....Lion's and Tigers and Bear oh my........

When I used to go into Ryan, the best camp site was on the island 100 yards from the end of the portage from Shirley. That may be off limits now. There's a great rock face on the north side of that island that just drops into deep water. And on your way out, to your left when you put back into Crotch, there's a little lake 600 yards up a hill (Robin Lake) where we lucked out with a couple of 3.5 pound specs. As well, if I remember correctly, the trail from Shirley to Crotch crosses a bush road and there's a bridge there over a small creek. I caught a beautiful little 3/4 pounder spec right under the bridge. No matter how great the weather looks, if you're headed to the other end of the lake or to another lake, do up the tent proper. I watched four guys who didn't do that cope with drenched sleeping bags. Have a great trip! Your pics will definitely bring back some fond memories.

Bacon,

Few things I learned on the Discovery Channel about co-existing with bears:

Don't try to run -- they're faster.
Don't try to climb trees -- they climb better, or can just rip the tree out.

If it's a mother bear with wee ones, don't act aggressive. Play dead as she mauls you.

If it's a male, particularly a young male, then DO act aggressively. Or else he will surely know he can take you on and win.

Well, enjoy your trip.

Hey Bacon, good luck on the weekend... Don't worry about the bears too much. They're usually more afraid of you ... Of course, don't wrap yourself in trout or anthing silly. Bacon wrapped trout is a favourite of bears everywhere.

We're heading up to algonquin tommorow also but we'll be going into Brent ... Not sure which lake yet, we will decide on the way. So many lakes, so little time. We had plans however this guy whispered "secret trout lake" into our ears so everything may change...
