Is fishing important when meeting a girl?
Being a young and single fisherman I ask most women I meet if they like fishing and the outdoors. Now I know that there are a lot of older fellas on this board that like fishing as much as I do and have a wife, partner, ex-wives or whatever. What are you guys’ thoughts on the importance of their girlfriends, wives or partners knowing how to fish?
Note: Girls, I don’t think this post applies for both genders but you can definitely voice your opinion. I guess there must be some men who don’t fish… I don’t know what’s wrong with them but you girls can tell me about that.
Extra note: This is a lighthearted thread lets keep it fun eh? I wrote this to confirm my thoughts on a conversation I had lately.

unfortunately my wife's first husband took her out fishing but was left taking care of the kids on shore and he and his dad elft her alone for hours. That turned her off of fishing (and him).
So I fish and she shops with her girl friends and the odd time will come up to the lake to "chill out" for a weekend. But she is a city girl needs her stores and the big city life. So she goes and does her thing and I do mine. I would have liked it if she would have accompanied me but it is not to be.
I have a niece and her daughter( who is my goddaughter) who come out fishing with me. They are really good fisherpersons. On many occasions they have sat in the boat (when I had one) for hours at a time just fishing, with very few words exchanged. I enjoy their company so much.
My goddaughter started fishing at five yrs of age. She would pick the worms up and clean them with a cloth before handing them to me
.
Now she often outfishes me
. She is 13 now. That is really great.

I think that's the key, Gorfman. Start the lassies fishing young, so they develop a love for it. That's what my Dad did, and the rest is history!gorfman007 wrote:My goddaughter started fishing at five yrs of age. Now she often outfishes me![]()

(So cute about her cleaning the worms for you first.

Interesting thread.

Thanks, Dad, for taking me fishing when I was a kid.

Yeah right ...there's probably more heated negotiations between spouses on fishing time than between corporation lawyers finalizing a buy out....Urbanfisherman wrote: Extra note: This is a lighthearted thread lets keep it fun eh? I wrote this to confirm my thoughts on a conversation I had lately.

I think you'll find though, that if you meet the right girl ...fishing may not seem so important anymore ...at least for the first few years.

(might get jumped on for this)

yes
I would advise if you spend lots of time fishing and or hunting ,that you girl will be interested in going or staying home. My wife fishes with me most of the time, especially on trips and its better for me and her. My first wife did not go along, enough said. Its nice to go with your buddies every now and then but over time, buddies can become a pain in the butt.I prefer my wife go along now, roughrider

Fish
LOL,
My GF use to fish, now my wife and no fishing. That however is not a bad thing, someone has to watch the kids while I fish!
3 daughters, oldest (6) would rather I take the boat slow as not to mess up her hair. Middle (4) can stick em with the best, already has a 4lber to her name. Youngest (2 in May), will probably fish this year.
Future fishing GF's? Who knows?
Maybe after a long and tiring screening process!

Re: Fish
Hmmm, a daughter every two years...does that mean we should be looking for a new Grumpette in the upcoming year?!grumpy7790 wrote: 3 daughters, oldest (6) ... Middle (4) ... Youngest (2 in May) ...

PS: the daughter with the hair issues? Get her a couple of GI Joes and a Tonka dumptruck to combat those prissy X chromosomes.

My wife was born in TO but spent summer at cottage on Simcoe .
Never really talked much about fishing n our ealry years together , she knew I hunted ( one week a year ) and fished a bit.
Since then the kids and I have become avid fishermen she wants to spend more time on the water with us .. in fact she is the one who suggested we upgrade our boat to something larger so we can all fish together.
Having said all that , if she knows something is important to you she should understand.
Just avoid ultimatums ... unless you are ready for the outcome.

Wolfe,
Strike three your out!
I know a gent with seven daughters, last two were twins. He's a doc so he can afford seven.
Only other male in the house is the cat. I'm doomed.

It's funny I was just talking to my spouse yesterday about her lack of willingness to want to join me when fishing. So I got to thinking, if she doesn't care to participate in something I enjoy and want to share time with me fishing, she best keep her yap shut when I want to go out and do it
Kinda like when I zip it about her gambling
But seriously, I'd love to have her out more often in the boat with me.
