Bacon,
You must be retired!!!!!!!! That list would take me a lifetime.
Saskie????
Where about in Cochrane are you going to fish> I'm from Smooth Rock Falls originally which is about 35 miles west of Cochrane. If that is Cochrane Ontario close to Timmins let me know.
When hell freezes over, I'll be there icefishing!!!

That's the one - we're staying at Lillabelle Lake Resort for a night each way, which (apparently) is just outside of town by the airport. Has boat rentals and good pike/perch fishing in the lake. I'm definitely open to other suggestions on where to shore fish or rent boats, probably from shore and reasonably close (within 30min) to the trans-Canada.
There are few problems in life which can not be solved with a well-placed, high-explosive projectile.
Saskie about 80 miles west of Cochrane is Kapuskasing (also on hwy 11) i've been gone from there for 23 years now but if anybody in kapuskasing rents boats the river there is full of walleyes and pike. If u were going up with a boat in Smooth Rock Fallls just at the bridge there's a boat launch if you go south on the river u get to a good set of rapids more like small falls walleye right there are pretty good. But there is no boat rental in S.R.F.
If I was still up there you would have a fishing partner for a day for sure, but i'm in Ottawa now.. No work up there for me because if your Dad doesn't work at pulp and paper mill chances are i never would've either. So I moved

Last year we stopped at the Opasatika R just past Kapuskasing and let the dogs run/swim while we ate our lunch at the rest stop/boat launch there. Caught some small pike from shore. Probably do the same this year - its so convenient. Also plan to stop at the Kaginakagami R west of Hearst. There's a nice rest stop there too Anyone know what fish it has?

If I remember well there is park on Riverside dr which is off hwy11 right across from the entrance to the mill in Kapuskasing and there is a park there I think it's called riverside park.Might be a place to try your luck there. I think there is also a boat ride there to go for a small cruise on Kapuskasing river.

Canoedude, thanks for the input on Talon Lake. I was hoping the lake would be similar to Lake Nosbonsing in structure (which is nearby and of similar size), with less shoreline development. Like I mentioned before, I was impressed with Nosbonsing....except for too many #$*% boats and cottagers sometimes. It sounds like Talon would be difficult to fish with the steep shoreline and limited structure you mentioned. I wanted to give it a try because I heard somebody landed a verified 50 lb. musky there a few years back. I heard the same thing about Restoule, so maybe I'll give that a shot instead of Talon.....And French River Hitter wrote: "trexellunge - How did you make out on the North Channel of the French?".... I actually mentioned that I want to hit the North Channel of Lake Huron...but I fished the Upper French (North Channel of the river) for the better part of a week last season and had alot of good pike action, mostly medium sized pike, but a few good ones. I got the attention of a few big musky there too, but they just wanted to tease me . I noticed some of the other boats fishing for walleye, and they seemed to be having some action.

If not I will just add them to next years list.
I would like to spend a couple weeks on lake Abitibi. I know it a hugh lake
and I hear the lake can get pretty nasty at times. But I also hear it has some of the best pike and walleye fishing that can be had. I want to drive up with my boat, camp and rough it there for a couple weeks. I have heard that access is limited to the big and little Abitibi. This trip is probably a year or two away so I'm just planning early. I have roughed it up north many times so it's not new to me.
I can find little info on the net regarding access and fishing the Abitibi. Anyone here ever fish that lake? Camped there or have any info about access?
Sounds like Bacon's gonna be fishing everyday.
I'll be exploring the Haliburton Highlands this year mostly for some big bass. I've fished the kawarthas to my hearts content and its time to go somewhere else.
