The Senko Phenomenon?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Good point grumpy, I have heard of some people doing that but never tried it myself.

Well guys, now that I know what Drop Shotting is I will definitely have to return back to that presntation and give it a go. Thanks to both ORSSEY and Grumpy7790 for giving some variations of the method. Now we'll just have to go out and kick some BASS. It has been awhile since I even thought of using that method. Take care.

Cheers

Jerk Bait

Post by grumpy7790 »

I've had some luck with fishing the Senko or Bamboo like a suspending jerkbait. Just throw it out over a weedbed and work it back like you would a hard body bait. Also try a nail weight inserted in the tail.

Thanks for the good read guys and the diagram are most helpful. I've had senkos and some knock offs for several years now but haven't given it a fair chance. Last year, I started experimenting with it in heavy cover working it just like a slug and caught some decent bass. I tried wacky style on the smaller senko and it also works well. Looking forward in discovering its true potential this summer.

The other way we used to Drop Shot was when we went for EYES up at Lake Nippissing. There we would use a worm harness about 18" above the sinker and have the sinker on the bottom of the lake. A number of years ago but very productive.

Here is some reference info for different manufactures of french-fry style baits:

Gary Yamamoto - Senko http://www.yamamoto.baits.com/

Wave Worms - Tiki and Bamboo Sticks http://www.wavefishing.com/

Yum - Dinger http://www.yum3x.com/ http://www.lurenet.com

Berkley - Sinking Minnow http://www.berkley-fishing.com/

Phenix - Cinko http://www.phenixcanada.com/ (Canadian)

Venom - Slings http://www.venomlures.com

There are more but this is a good start.

Cheers,

I forgot to mention the importance of size. Size does matter.

Last July Big Jim gave us a chat when we were down at Caigers for the Bassin Week-end. He was pretty hyped about Senkos and his chat was what made me focus a little more on what I was doing with them. In particular he mentioned size as being an important factor on some days.

His messsage was simple... when the fish ain't biting (perhaps a cold arctic front has moved through as was the case for the Caiger's trip) then try down-sizing your bait. And now I never go anywhere without the four inch version of a senko. I do what Jim suggested, which is rig them texas style with a light sinker at the nose. And it does make a difference on a tough day. I went from getting nothing to something. Jim was using a watermelon green colour.

senko DVD

Post by hawgwild »

If you go to the Gary Yamamoto website as Probassing posted earlier and you subscribe to his publication "Inside Line" you will receive a free DVD.

The dvd talks about senkos as well as 3 of yamamoto grubs (the hula, single and double tail grub). It goes into the different types of rigs that you can fish the senko in. Texas, carolina, wacky and the drop shot rig. I have it and it would be good for someone just getting into fishing with this type of bait. Whether it's a yamamoto bait or any other that others have mentione. Just something if someone is looking for more info on how to fish the senko.

I have no afiliation with Gary Yamamoto, I am just passing along information if anyone wants it.

Pages 29-30 of his catalogue also show a rigging guide for some of his products.
