Rideau Report....Feb 20th....

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Rideau Report....Feb 20th....

Post by RJ »

Well Kim had a candle party to do so I figured I'd just drop her off and keep on truckin'.....and hit a spot I haven't fished in awhile...

Arriving to noone on the ice is always an unknown venture.....so I walked out about 25 feet and started to drill a hole.... ...tons of ice!... :D ...so I drilled about 5 holes...dropped down the Vex and away I went....I was finding depths around 10-12 feet....nada on the Vex....so away I go drilling more holes....looking for deeper water.....couldn't find anything over 12...after checking about 12 holes by this time with nothing I decided to go shallow...5 feet of water.....

Drilled the hole...drop in the Vex....yeeha!...fish on the bottom....here we go....my search has paid off I figure...

I've been hearing guys yak about wax worms.....so I tip my ratso with a waxie....and down she goes...flik..flik....the fish would move up to it....and stare at it.....for 5 minutes I watched this fish stare at it.... ...so I gave it a rip...moving it at least 3 feet.....and dropped it back down.....and gulp!....fish on!....pulling drag outta my little reel.....up she comes....nice little pike....on 3 lb test it was fun I'll tell ya.... :D

So I move around a bit more...nothing..back to that hole I go....

Now they are stacked down there....having to leave at 4:45 to pick up Kim......and it's now 3:50....this hole turned into a perch glory hole!...

They wouldn't touch the wax worm..... ...I straightened out the little buggers though.....a small chunk of dew worm...and I couldn't keep em off....34 were iced before I left... :D

Thank You Vexilar!!!

Upgraded all my perch today.....lots of keepers....the average was about the size of the one in the pic...9 inches.....on the large size I thought!...I did have one jumbo at 11.5....and 4 10's.....they all went back down the hole...

A great way to spend an afternoon I'll tell ya!

Sounds like a great afternoon. Even though it was cool out the sun was really nice! I love my Vex too! I am looking forward to Silver Lake on Saturday.

I gotta get me a vex for next year. Seems they can help just about anyone catch a fish.

Oh ya, you should take your new pants back and exchange them for a size bigger...then you'd be able to get them zippered up.

Wicked Perch day. Maybe if we get enough people wanting Vex's, we can do the same thing you guys did with the deep fryers :!:
