HOW CLOSE IS TOO CLOSE.

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

I don't like the crowd situation,I'll fish the outer edge.

If I'm into good #'s of fish,I'll leave the hut canopy down,so no prying eyes can see & decide to set up shop ,right beside me.

It's just like downrigging,I've seen people with binoculars, scanning the masses, looking for people hooking fish.

Nothing like having someone come up,really close, start burning holes, then seeing the good picture on the flasher disappearImage Image.

Quinte

Post by Lakeshore »

On time about 15 years ago, I was out on Quinte. Just an absolutely lousy day, windy, cold, the ice was beginning to thin in anticipation of spring weather. The fishing was absolutely terrible. I was sitting outside on a white bucket, jigging when this guy walks right by me holding a bottle of Jack Daniels in his hand and a short rod in the other.

He provceeds to knock a hole in the ice a few feet from me, sits for about a minute, gets up and proceeds to walk away a few further, pokes another hold in the ice and keeps doing this. I begin to watch him, he falls a few times, go over, he yells at me, smells of booze. I have not been out to Quinte since, my last trip there was bad. Lots of rude people making noise, just not enjoyable.

crowding

Post by Jigs »

Mostly I fish the same old spots every year, and I treat folks the same as when I'm in a boat.........give em room. Unless you are with them or get invited over, it ain't polite to crowd.

Really don't like 4x4's or snowmobiles tramplin my tip ups.........

Best of the New Year:

This one came up at new years on the fish hawk board, I felt hawk talkers were good in their responses. Reading today on the Simcoe board i'm a little shocked! First response double depth + 20', second response, not closer than 75' if they speak english. Then it degenerated to I'll punch you in the mouth if you crowd me! A hut operator even said he had confiscated 2 white fish from an angler and run him off with his power auger! Can you legally buy a piece of ice or can you make a claim on it?

No,ice is for anyone...unless the water is privately owned. Too bad some people are just bad eggs. But that's life.

I like Jammer's response, he is right. Here is what happened to me just this weekend.
Bite was off most of the morning for everyone, I moved around checking new sites, always far from the pack. I have to work a little harder in that I have no quad, all walking pulling a Trap.
Some guys I was talking to on the FRS, I told him my luck, where I was etc, so they showed up. This I was cool with. I was far on the edge of the pack by this time.
But then they proceeded to punch holes not 15ft from me, four people. Gas auger, talking away, getting more beer out a cooler, moving the quad closer for wind protection, walking around, telling jokes, blah blah blah.
Bite shut down for awhile, then they left.

Too close. I like 100 ft.
