Maybe we should save on fuel.....skip Quinte, grab some suckers and sit and eat....wait for the big boys to come and join us

I too just recently found a nice spot to pick up some Ottawa walleye... not that size yet but nice.

I did the same thing last year jigging/drifting for Lakers. Bosc and I already boated a couple beauties and Jammer was still working on his first. I layed my rod across my consul to grab a bite and low and behold, it goes flying off the consul! I grab it set the hook and land another lunker lake trout!

Jammer is still shaking his head.

I hear ya about the net RJ. I try to keep mine strapped in it's secure spot too.

By the looks of that picture - it should say Madawaska River Walleye Supertanker - you are not on the Ottawa until you leave the mouth....just kidding - very nice fish - good to see they are starting to feed.

That is a great walleye Gordo. If you work deep 35ft drops with large live bait in the fall you can catch lots to 10+ lb walleye in the Madawaska system and the Ottawa River. Usually the fist deep hole near the mouth of the river or spawning shore/shoal will hold some fine walleye.

Can't wait to see the mount...

Nice fish guys! Way to go! Why fish BOQ when ya can catch them like that here?

I heard the bite at BOQ isn't in full swing yet. They said another three weeks before the fish really move in. Anyone going for a second try?

Man what a night. It never fails... as soon as you stuff your face WHAM! fish on. The funny thing is RJ and I were talking about mounts and what would be the magic number to mount a fish. What are the pro's and con's, and all the talk on the baord and this little beauty hits. Well it was a long debate (mostly with myself) and I decided to keep it (one of the few fish I've ever kept). I'm looking forward to this mount for my wall of fame in my games room.

Thanks for all the kudos boys! I might be sold on using live bait

Geez dude...

Once upon a time Gordo Cronzy and RJ Izumi went for a fish........ the end.

In Fisherman Magazine raves... it was the happiest ending of all time.

Outdoor Canada quotes... we tried to hire the guy for his skills with the rod but Gordo just can't be contained like that. He's an angler and a champion for all, in retrospect it'd be selfish to steal him from the public "eye."

And the he lives on in the "eye," and what an "eye" it is.

I have never seen them in any bait shop.

Would using planner boards and large deep diving stick baits work up here like they work down in Quinte?

Most of the walleye in the Ottawa area relate to bottom structure and do not spend most of their life suspended feeding on bait fish like the Great Lakes walleye...so a quick answer to your question is no, but there is always exceptions.

In August I have caught suspended walleye in deep lake basins like Centennial, Pike , Crotch, Sharbot and Muskrat Lake with an inline planer board spread...most of these lakes have murky water so the boards are only for spreading the lures, not to prevent spooking walleye. I have found that a lot of the big fish like to suspend in deep lakes through out the summer months...in fall they usually move back into the deep holes at the mouth of the rivers and spawning areas to stage for the winter months. You can catch these fish by trolling but they are concentrated in a small area so vertical jig'n and live bait rigs work great...this is also the best technique and time of year for a trophy walleye.
