Wabun Lake
Hi everyone,
I wonder if any of you fished Wabun Lake in Calabogie area for lakers
with a positive result. According to MNR stocking lists they put quite a
few fish in the lake, but I never seen a lake trout caught in there.

I'm wondering the same, I went there in late August and got skunked but that is often the case with lakers unfortunately. I was worried how easily accessed this lake is with a good road leading to an easy boat launch, thinking that it might receive some heavy pressure at times. So I hope it is stocked rather heavily. Beautiful lake though, seemingly all crown land with several really nice cliffs! A great lake to visit even if you get skunked, just please everyone treat it gently!
Wabun
Been there in the summer and just caught lots of little Bass. I'm going to try for the lakers on the next upcoming weekend without lots of rain.
Anyone I've ever spoke too has been skunked for the trout on this lake
Or maybe that's just what I'm being told
I've also heard that their are Rainbows in there.... not sure if that true
Can anyone confirm/deny
Thanks, Buzzer

I've fished it several times over the past 10 years or so. The few times I've seen another boat, they were fishing for "trout." What species they didn't say, and since I was after bass I wasn't interested enough to inqure further. The past couple of years the water level was too low to launch my boat without getting wet, so I went down the road to the river section of Norcan. I have caught some smallmouth over 3 lbs. but never a trout of any kind.

Basstalker, Wabun is open all year, one of those year round laker fishing oppurtunities. I havent heard any stories of catching the lakers there but have heard people seeing them(good sized) in the spring from the cliffs looking down, I'm thinking of giving the lake a shot soon as well. Mosquito did you mark any big schools with your electronics??
Wabun Lake
Hello All,
A few weeks ago I also sent out a message about Trout Lakes in Renfrew County. Wabun seems to be one of those mysteries. I too I have not ever caught a trout there, but have met folks coming off the water who have. Go figure!
Yes the lake is open year round, except Boxing Day or some day around then. It never seems busy, and usually its filled with folks camping on the weekend.
With all the fish the MNR puts in, you would think some of us would have some luck! I notice one chap saying in a response that he has been there and folks have said they were fishing trout. A number of the locals call them "Greys", and yes there are supposed to be Rainbows in it, but..........
The young lad and I did not get there this summer, but last year we did mark a large number of fish on bottom near the large rock face on the far side of the lake, and kitty-corner from there on the opposite side, all in 80 - 90 ft of water (I don't imagine they were bass, but I have been proven wrong many times when it comes to fishing). Ice fishing from what I hear can be productive, but then I've only ever heard that from the locals up in Calabogie.
If anyone was in there this summer or in the last few weeks, how was the road? It tends to get really washed out at times, and is a bit of a challenge. It seems to be one of the roads the MNR and the County do last, and usually once year.
Cheers!

On several occasions I marked big fish in 70-85 fow, but never in a big school. I also saw some big fish in spring - usually in pairs, and I suspect
it was SM bass. I cought many 2-3 lb. bass there and some of them
were really deep - 50 - 60 feet. Small perch seems to be the main
forage fish there .

I couldn't resist!
It seems that the 2004 election was so close that the Electoral College vote was tied, and that Congress couldn't break the deadlock, and that the Supreme Court decided they'd better not make the decision themselves. So they sent Bush and Kerry to a frozen lake in Renfrew County, Canada to have an ice fishing contest for Trout. No one was allowed to accompany them, and they were on their honor to let the guy who caught the most fish in five days become president.
On the first day they went out in different directions. Kerry came back with ten fish. Bush caught none.
On the second day, Kerry caught twenty fish and again George W. came back empty handed.
When Kerry brought back 25 fish on day three and George W. still hadn't caught any, Bush got worried and telephoned Dick Cheney for advice.
"He's probably cheating," suggested the Vice President.
"I hadn't thought of that," said George W. "You're probably right. What do we do?"
Cheney suggested that instead of going fishing the next day, Bush follow Kerry to see what he was doing. At the end of day 4, Bush called up Cheney and told him, "you were right, Dick, the poo poo is cheating."
"What's he doing?" asked Cheney.
"He's cutting holes in the ice!"
