5 things you dislike about bass fishing?

Post by richardwcollins »

As a follow up to Ol' crickety's thread. Name top 5 dislikes about the sport we all love.

1. Idiots at the boat ramp. (Don't know what they are doing and take forever as they hog the ramp like they are the only ones on earth.) I load and unload by myself and never take more than 5 minutes.

2. Idiots on the water. (Pleasure boats and jet skis who have the whole lake but prefer to be right near the guy who wants to be quiet and alone while fishing.)

3. Cost. inflation on the price of gear, fuel, and insurance is out of control.

4. Wind. some may like it, but not this guy. Fishing when it is windy becomes a hassle quickly.

5. Traffic. Drivers need to be aware of people pulling a trailer. We cannot accelerate or stop quickly. Most do not understand this.

Still love the sport!

Seriously, the cost of buying materials is as much as what I spend on food on weekends. Too expensive!

As a new boat owner myself, i encourage everyone to be helpful, and supportive to folks at the boat ramp that are just doing their best and learning and gaining experience launching their boats. We were all there once, learning how to run a trailer and the techniques with getting a boat on said trailer.

I do my best to get in and out as quick as possible, but sometimes hit snags and there's nothing like someone just watching there cursing silently while i panic trying to get the boat on or off....

Help a guy out if you see him struggle. It'll get both of you on or off the water more quickly :)

Amazing repost to Ol' Crickety's thread! However, this sport, which we adore and is the source of so many joys, also has a few annoyances that are hard to disregard. First off, encountering some dimwits at the boat ramp can be sheer test for your patience, particularly when their incompetence in executing the task makes everyone else wait longer. Just like the people on the water, there are some who seem to have a talent for crowding right next to you, even with all the space in the lake.Gear, fuel, and insurance are ever-increasingly expensive, which is not only a big burden, but also a serious obstacle to our fun pastime. Windy conditions are a particular annoyance for me; they can easily turn a peaceful fishing day into a wild and crazy experience. Finally, you may have to deal with traffic, as numerous drivers appear unconcerned about the problems of pulling a trailer behind them, which makes the road hazardous. Nonetheless, these drawbacks, the passion for the game is still vibrant!

Totally get you on the ramp situation—it's like they forget there's a line behind them! And yeah, the jet ski crowd can be super annoying when you're just trying to enjoy some peace. The costs keep rising, and it’s such a bummer when you find a great spot only for the wind to mess things up. And don’t get me started on the traffic; people really don’t realize how tricky it can be with a trailer.

Great list, and I’m right there with you—especially on the boat ramp one. It’s wild how many folks show up totally unprepared, like it’s their first time every single time.

My 5:

Boat ramp chaos (100% agree)

Jet skiers with zero awareness

Crowded lakes on weekends

Overpriced tackle that breaks in a season

When bass follow but don’t commit—so frustrating!

Still, nothing beats that topwater strike at sunrise. Keeps me coming back every time.
Hi there! I'm Zu. It's a pleasure to meet you.

1.If you guys are finding boat ramps annoying you should really try fishing from an inflatable boat sometimes .
You won’t depend on the existence of a ramp but, there’s a but, you will have to carry everything to and from the water,inflate/deflate, gear up your rig (tiller motor, trolling motor, sonar, chairs and so on) and undo everything at the end of the day when you’re also tired.
After just one day of fishing like that, you’ll find that you’re worst day at the ramp is a breeze. On the up side it is cheaper and more convenient on the highway since there isn’t a trailer to worry about.
2. Jet skiers, floating donuts pulled round and round your fishing spot when the action is hot, and any similar lack of respect.
3. Rudeness on the water in general but especially those people who choose to go full speed over the are you are casting on ( specially in the shallows)
4. High winds and wind and chilly rain combined
5. Those moments when you cannot find them the whole day and it is already time to go home when you eventually run into them.

Tournaments with 50 or more high-powered $100,000+ boats speeding everywhere ruining a day at the lake for everyone else.
Damn right I'm good in the sack...I can sleep for hours!
