I had read an article a ways back in In-Fisherman mag about baiting for channel cat. The boys down south would throw copious amounts of fermented grain (whcih kind, I don't remember and too lazy to dig it out of the pile) in a hole that was showing cats on the sonar. Kinda like making a bed for carp. The cats would then obviously be attracted to the bait and would get them on a feeding binge.
Anyone ever seen this article, or used this technique?? Or are the cats just so abundant that this would be kicking a dead horse.
Hey Manny, I would say chumming will increase your odds but when the cats are on in the Ottawa all I've ever used are worms or live or dead minnows. I've had days when my hands were prunes from not drying over a couple of hours from handling fish.

Someone, yes you can catch cats from shore in Ottawa. I've seen people catching all kinds of them from shore at the Deschene Look out on the Ottawa River Parkway.
