One of the first people to ever visit Fish-Hawk.Net, probably way back in 2000, was Big Joe. Joe sent an article from the Clifton Merchant to me and I was able to steal the pictures from it, and a little bit of the story. The story in the Merchant went like this...
It was 1965 and Henry F. Marrocco Jr. was living the dream of an avid fisherman. Locked in an intense struggle with a 42-pound muskellunge, Marrocco finally landed the record game fish. Marrocco’s landmark catch earned him the title of “fishing expert’’ among friends in The Knights of the St. Lawrence.
The informal fishing club, comprised of a dozen Clifton men, made an annual pilgrimage to Ontario, Canada. Henry Marrocco really loved to fish, especially with his friends from the club...
And here are some of the Knights...Joe's dad is top right. The Knights of the St. Lawrence: From left: Hon. Peter Ciolino,
Sal “Tuddy†Corradino and Alex Peto. Back row: Henry Marrocco Jr.
and Hon. Joseph Salerno. Missing from photo is Bert Desoteo.
Thanks a bunch Joe - and it is great to see that you and your buddies are carrying on the fine tradition started by the Knights of the St. Lawrence. Maybe you should call yourselves "The Ganonoque Gang".
Fishhawk "gotta run like a madman bye thanks see ya good luck"
Thanks for posting the story Hawk, I come from a rich fishing heritage. The family always packed up the gear and headed north every summer. One year we arrived home just in time to take my mom to the hospital to have my brother Mike! That's how much fishihg meant to my dad. As for Henry, no better fisherman existed, I can still hear him yelling to his daughter Judy-GET THE NET, GET THE NET!! He along with my dad and Alex Peto are missed every day. There was no truer friendship then those bunch of guys. Joe.
If you are ever in Gananoque go to the old Muskie Lounge and read the board above the entrance. All the record Muskie are listed and Henrys' fish is there. I stop every year and read and remember.
