Every spring I make the trip over to the province of Quebec to partake in the spring trout bite, The lake our camp is on used to be dynamite for Lake Trout and Specks but since the bass were introduced to the lake 20 some odd years ago it has never been the same.
I headed out Wednesday morning with the plan to do something a little different. I was a fishing 6.75" line through swimbait slowly back trolling around sunken rock humps in 20-30fow. After spending the morning marking a whack load of fish, but have nothing to show for it I came across one of the islands my old man used to fish for lakers off as a kid with cane poles and live bait, right off the island its drops straight into 25-30 fow. I'm trolling along enjoying the sunshine dragging the swimbait on bottom when my bait gets slammed, I knew right away it was a decent fish, she held her own and gave me quite the battle!
I have been looking at those swim baits. They come in 6.5 and 8 inch. Top hook and bottom hook. Baby bass or Clear Lake Hitch look like some good colors. Has anyone had good luck with these swimbaits?

They also make a weedless version that you rig with a 10/0 Owner Beast swimbait hook. In terms of the line through I prefer the top hook, the bottom hook excels in shallow water fishing it over grass flats ect.
