Baitcaster vs Spinning Reels

Hi guys ,i'm in the process of shopping for a new reel, my ? is I mostly do trolling for walleye ,pikes ,some jiggings.What would be the best choice for reels,
Spinning or Baitcasting and what can I get for around 150.00/200.00.What line is best for trolling that I don't get a mess after each trips...Wally

Wouldn't bother with a baitcaster over a spinning reel. So with that said, a 2500-3000 series Shimano (or equivalent in maybe Daiwa) at a price you can afford, that's where you should be looking. As for line, it'd be great if you had two spools... with 10lb PowerPro and 30lb PowerPro, which can cover me for pretty well all my pike, walleye, bass, gar and trout fishing... even crappie if need be.

Theres no right or wrong to this..

I actually used to like trolling better wit ha baitcaster over a spinning there was always less line twist. Especially if your trolling with crawler harnesses or inline spinners. Baitcasters have better cranking power but less quality drags. They are basically a winch. As for a reel in your price range Id look at the Shimano Casitas or Citica.

Spinning is probably the easier one of the two to learn how to use if your new to both style of reels. As for reel selection Id go Shimano 2500 or 3000 just like Moosebunk stated. Id recommend a Shimano Saros. If you wanted to cheap out a bit the Shimano Symetre. Both those reels have XSHIP which is a feature that gives you 20% more cranking power then any other competitors spinning reel. Its a no brainer.

I will echo Andrew (Moosebunk),
While I too have a stradic, you could easily get away with a pflueger president or the daiwa line for about 1/3rd to 1/2 of the price.
They will have all the power needed to haul big eyes out, and will allow you to just get fishing, versus learning baitcasting.

I do however have both baitcasting and spinning set ups for walleye jigging.
