My first ever muskie.. but no monster

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

John,

Is there any fish out there safe from your skill?! 8)

Congrat's! You deserve it... and I agree with everyone that there are monster muskies in your future.

One's swimming around with my name on it, I hope.

W.
Thanks, Dad, for taking me fishing when I was a kid.

Congrats John! I'm super happy for you! I'm glad some of my tips paid off.

Keep at it, and you'll start to hook in to some real monsters. :)

Beautiful fish. I just love the colours on the Rideau fish, especially the smaller ones.

Way to go mate!

Did she fight ya tooth and nail? That is the big difference I find between pike and musky. They look similar, but musky have an attitude.

OMG, my wife is a musky!

My son missed his first Muskie on our holidays  Lokked to be a good 45" plus!!! Were were in a paddle boat at the time  Shoulda seen his face when it broke water!! Managed to spit his jig! As I told him though, just as well. We FORGOT the bloody camera at home anyway!

I did manage a 42 " myself....They are a treat to catch let me tell ya!

Much like your Carp no doubt!
That would have been interesting, getting a muskie in a paddle boat!

Thanks to everyone for the kind words... I know some out there know how i've tried for them for a good while on and off and how much it means to finally get one... I think one thing that stands out is not giving up.. If you want to catch a new species or catch a new personal best it sometimes takes time.

So far this year i've had my first salmon, my first muskie, and had a 36lb and 34lb carp. On top of that i've tried to get into bass fishing and so far managed several 3lb smallies and 3lb lmb from a few different waters.. those 4lbers, 5lbers and perhaps higher are out there.

Not a bad year considering most of the prime fishing is just around the corner.
