With summer comes the final opener and with trout fishing now on the backburner for the next little while, it was a much anticipated change of lakes and tactics.
Fished our butts off Saturday and Sunday chasing the post-spawn acrobats and did quite well. Fish were hungry and were almost well into their summer patterns. Highlight was a nickel smallmouth Anthony caught in the first hour of the day Sat. Lots of 3lbs fish and a few 4lbs largemouth also came over the gunnel throughout the weekend. Sighted many big fish that were in transition but just would not take. Long casts were super important in getting bites. Another week or so and they will be easier targets.
All fish were taken on flipping jigs, crankbaits, senkos and frogs. Water temps varied from low 70's to 79 on the two lakes, and had us fishing completely different patterns on both. There were lot's of other boats out fishing and people finally taking advantage of the beautiful weather. Looking forward to the Ottawa River opener this weekend and some St. Lawrence smallmouth this week but for now my sides are hurting from setting the hook
