Big Rideau Bass

I'm heading on Big Rideau Lake (murphy's point) on august 9th for some large and smallmouths,any pointers on where to fish?

BENLEGER: Welcome to fish-Hawk. A good spot to look is in the MAP PROJECTS it has a lot of good fishing spots.

havn't been up there this year but Big O and I went up last fall.......We found the clear water real hard to fish

best luck was dropping tubes down the rock wall in the narrows for smallmouths didn't catch any great size but at least had some action

One of the tricks on Big Rideau lake is to find the weed beds. The lake is really clear, deep and rocky. You find the weed beds and you will get some largemouth.

Smallmouth love the rocks. Check out points, islands and drop offs.

Tubes and crawfish imitation baits work great. Don't rule out crank baits either.

If you can make the trip (It really isn't that far) to Lower Rideau lake there are lots of wed beds there. Largemouth are plentiful in the lower Rideau. Also, there are a few back bays around Portland that produce small largemouth as well.

Saw some nice lm swimming in bass bay didnt get the big one to bite but did ok. For sm try between grindstone and plum islands or nw side of tar island. Senko type baits and small cranks worked well week befor last. Good luck

Yeah i just cleaned my computer of all the viruses and no i don't work there anymore i got in full-time for the city, maybe we should plan an outing together i'll show where the big bass hang!

everything's fine, but i'll have to sell my share to my brother next year since me and my partner are buying a bigger boat....... i found a good pattern in rockland, i'll show it to you for 500$ o.b.o......i just hope it still produces this week since i'm fishing renegade on saturday.

Just came back

we only caught 1 bass all day, like topwater said, the clear water makes it hard to fish when your not used to it. I will try flipping docks and fishing deeper next time i head out, thanks for all the tips guys.

I started fishing there about 25 years ago we had great fishing east of Rideau Ferry. In fact I'll go on record to say that was the best bass fishing spot in eastern Ontario but that was just before bass fishing and tournaments got so popular there. One day I caught about 70 bass!

Sawlog Bay....around Slab Island, the north bay behind Bacchus Island and and at the mouth of the Tay River. We used spinnerbaits alot. Smaller white ones early in the season and big 1/2 oz willowleaf ones by late August. There was a bed of wild rice I believe across Petty's Bay that we used to fish with a weedless Johnson Silver Minnow/pork rind combo. Once the rice started coming up by August, Sept and by Oct it was full of bass.

Later years we started fishing the main lake. Wearing polarized glasses we would look for and visually find the deepest beds of coontail weed. The water might be 20 feet deep. We fished around the outside edges with plastic worms. Later just before I stopped fishing there we would drop big 1/2 oz jig'n pigs into the weed holes.

Boy oh boy......we caught alot of huge fish doing that.
