Manotick Walleye

Manotick Walleye

Post by Wencz »

My friend and I got out Tuesday night to look for the elusive Rideau River Walleye in and around Manotick. By about 8:15pm all we had caught was about a dozen small rock bass, and picked up and moved locations.

After a quick boat ride we were rewarded with a beautiful walleye, no scale, but looked to be about a 2 pounder. It was really exciting to see walleye this size right in and around Manotick. Couldn't bear to keep such a beauty, so back he went. We were a bit slow with the camera and wanted to get him back in the water, so no shot. Caught jigging with powerbait minnows on a rattlin jighead.

About 30 minutes later as we were planning to head back, my buddy hooked into a beauty. Looking at the bend in the rod we thought it was a pike for sure, but out came ol' glass eyes. We were elated. Again, rattlin jighead, this time retrieving a yellow mister twister. No scale, but we'd put him between 3 and 4 lbs. Back he want to fight another day.

Thanks to kind man at the Manotick baitshop for the tips.

Here are some photos of my buddy's fish:
