New Toy

Post by Jimmy_1 »

I was in Costco today shopping and I stumbled upon some boats of all things!

Well I was impressed! I have been looking for a small boat for a while for duck hunting and for tossing into some small lakes around my hunt camp.

Well they had 12 ft Jon boats (Tracker/Fisher) for $699 and Pelican DLX Predators for $1000. I took the Pelican. Reason being it is wired, has a livewell, rod holder, front and back motor plates, folding seats, cup holders and is rated for a 7hp motor.

So we buy the boat..boy that was fun walking around Costco with that! Then we start the search for a motor.

We stop in at GSM. The same jon boats that were $699 @ COSTCO are $1042 there! I see they had a nice little 2.5hp 4-stroke. Asking price....$1100.

Onward to CP marine. Nice little Yammie 2.5 4 stroke. $1100....

Go across the street to Mikes Marine. A 2002 Johnson 6hp 2-stroke. $550!
S-O-L-D!!!! Belonged to an old guy who had passed away. His wife had a 12 ftr and the motor on consignment. The 12 ftr sold last fall but the buyers didn't need the motor as they had one.

So a new boat and motor for playing in the back lakes for under $1800...not too bad! Best of all fits in the back of the p/u....no need to trailer!

Way to go Jamsers !

I've been looking at the PRED for a few weeks now ($999.00) at COSTCO, but was trying to figure out how I would get it home, and around to the small lakes and rivers.
I don't have a p/u, which means I would have to get a trailer......or something to tow it around (don't figure it would fit on to of my car..... :( )

Nice looking little machine . . . .CONGRATS !
Can't wait for your first report!

Cheers
Scott

Thanks!

There are alot of small lakes up by my camp that have no boat launch.
I know they are FULL of nice bass and walleye just not easily accesible!

Well thats out of the way now! :D

Hopefully my hunting partner and I can make up a nice pop-up canopy structure for duck season!

Here's something some folks might be interested in if they are in the same boat as Jamsers (excuse the pun)... part kayak, part jonboat... Hobie Pro Angler.

Yep,

Pred was $1,130 (taxes in)
2002 Johnson 6hp w/reverse $550 (no tax)

So in total: $1,680.00

Now I just have to find a portable fish-finder and we're in business! (for finding depth and fish when trolling)

Total dry weight of the boat is 154 lbs. To me that is light. But the narrow jon boats for $699 can't be beat! That is a car topper boat for sure.

Now I can fish around in places where boat and trailer were problematic.

I priced out Quack Grass for camoing the boat. $12 for an 8x5 piece. So I figure I can build a structre to put it on and the grass for well under $100. They even sell an engine cowl cover for $7.50!
