Just makes you scratch you head in disbelief. These guys had to be clueless. I drive across the Jock daily and it's currently running very high and fast. Hardly ideal conditions for pannies or cats, seeing as how they're the only legal catch currently.
On a side note, the reporter that wrote the story should have review their notes, given that the Jock River is no where near Woodruffe and Fallowfield. The only body of water remotely close to that intersection is Black Creek, which at the moment isn't much wider than a tinny.

It is still survival suit weather out there guys.
Please don't let that sun and warmer weather fool us. You never know when a chunk of ice could pop up under the boat.

When hell freezes over, I'll be there icefishing!!!

Hope the second guy is found, and hope both recover.
Agree with Todd and Jamsers, even when I cross the Jock on the 416, all I can see is it blending in with the field.
As for the comment about the notes that the reporter made regarding the river being between Woodroffe and Fallowfield, that is pretty bad, but not nearly as bad as the headline that the CBC has on their site right now:f

That's scary. I was up that way checking conditions and heard all the sirens and figured there was a car accident. A couple minutes later I saw an outboard gas tank float by...didn't think much of it as I have seen alot stranger things floating in that river after ice out. Now it all makes sense and I feel horrible, not sure if I would've been of any help but could have tried. Hopefully we hear some good news...

The 37.778C rule guys (It sounds better as the 100 degree F rule). If the water temperature plus the air temperature is not at least 38 degrees celsius, you are at increased risk of hypothermia.
That said, condolences to the friends and family.

My thoughts exactly, Jazman...
Let's show a bit of respect here, folks. A young man has probably perished - be it a son, husband, or brother. For all we know, it could be one of our own from this site.
I actually felt quite disgusted by Todd's comments. To bring up something such as a "Darwin Award," and then make more of a deal about some reporter getting the directions wrong, with a LMAO tossed in for good measure. Shameful.
My thoughts and prayer's go out to this young man's family and friends. Unless he is found, which looks extremely unlikely at this point, family members and friends are coming home from work right about now to have this dreadful news heaped upon them...think about it.
We've all done stupid things - whether it be sledding on thin ice, speeding down the 417, or not wearing our life jackets. Accidents and mistakes happen. I don't believe these two fellas purposely set off this afternoon knowing one, if not both, would perish. Come on.
Anyways...like Wallyboss pointed out - survival suit weather at this time. All it takes is one miscalculation and life can end pretty quick.
Safe Boating,
Justin

I sincerely hope the missing guys family or friends don't visit this site and read those comments.

Very sad situation for sure, one that none of us would want to deal with anytime. I like them just want to be out on the water. Things happen soooooo fast and with the water temps so low it Doesn’t take long to get in trouble.
I'm sure Todd never meant any disrespect.
My condolences to the family and friends

I know the exact spot this happened.....their last few minutes in that tinny would not have been fun....
I really wish they didn't mention a "fishing boat"......my bet is that those boys had no gear on board.....if they toured from Richmond as mentioned...that's quite the clip.....I'll bet they were on a joy ride thru the various rapids along the Jock...and this one went bad....
I've done it.....it's a hoot....but we used to wait until you wouldn't be in trouble if you went in...
Thoughts are with all involved......
