New pricing at Lebaron?
I haven't frequented LeBaron much since they left Bells Corners, but back in the day, their prices were remarkably low. Even with a 70-to-80-cent dollar, their lure prices pretty much matched BPS and Cabella's dollar for dollar. I.E., a lure priced at $5.98 U.S. in the BPS book could be had for $5.98 Canadian at LeBaron. American visitors could stop in and save 20 or 30 per cent over what they'd pay at home. Is this no longer the case?
I think many fans of online shopping exaggerate the savings. My kids are forever ordering stuff online and finding they're paying double what they expected because of delivery and handling charges, customs duty and dollar exchange. Then if the item doesn't fit, or is a piece of crap, they have to pay to ship it back. I don't like to buy anything I can't examine up close. A picture on a website doesn't do it for me.

I think it still is at times. When I compare the price of a crankbait at LeBaron to a few local shops around Ottawa and near my cottage, I'm finding that the prices at Lebaron are often $1-3 cheaper per lure. That's a fairly significant amount on a lure that costs less than $10. I've been to BPS in Toronto and find that their prices are not that different than LeBaron.sparky wrote:I haven't frequented LeBaron much since they left Bells Corners, but back in the day, their prices were remarkably low. Now, if you are thinking of a new rod or reel and aren't sure what you want, then the local shops could be a bit more expensive, but I think the advice and service that you get more than make up for any price difference.
I have been looking at the Lebaron's prices over the last month and they increased the price on things twice since December.
I think the dollar has something to do with it but I also think Lebaron's is saying hey lets make some more money, our prices were so low maybe we were too low. Now that the dollar is down its an excuse to bring the prices up....
For example last year Mustad Triple grips hooks were 4.94$ I bought some in December for 5.45$ now I got the catalogue and its 6.54$. The local CDN tire has some stuff cheaper than Lebarons now!
Same thing for rods and reels,I am going to buy from a sponsor on the board, they are considerably cheaper on a rod and reel plus they give me great service The rod and reel in question is cheaper with the taxes (roughly 20$ each) than Lebaron's prices without taxes.
I reccommend to everybody to check with the board sponsors, I think Lebarons is trying to live on the reputation of being less expensive and the hope the buyers don't make an educated and informed purchase.
Good shopping and good fishing.

New pricing
I'm toying with the idea of a new Curado. Shipped from Cabela's it's $239 and that doesn't take into consideration the exchange rate.
Talking to Ed the other day and he is extremely competitive. If I make the decision to buy I'll be heading down the road to Winchester.

Another thing to consider fellas is since the economy is not too good right now, companies will start to up prices as well hoping to make a bit more on items as their volume may not be the same.....
As a sidenote....My buddy was looking for a Humminbird Flasher...Ice 35...he has his LeB's card....he called them up...none in stock...got his name and number....called MTL...called him back...."youll have it tomorrow Sir".....next day....it's in....he picked it up last night....I'm not saying LeB's is the be all and end all but when they do good...it should be noted....
