I was told that the bigger shops use a mass filtration system that goes to most if not all the tanks. The smaller shops use individual filtration systems. This way if disease broke out, it would be confined to one or a few tanks rather than all the tanks. True or not, I don't know.Ohridska Pastrmka wrote:I would say that Petsmart stores are much safer then some of Bait shops.

Todd B and others,
Here is some info that I hope will clear some things up.
I've contacted MNR office this afternoon after our discussion and I've asked the officer that I was talking to "Is it ilegal to grow your own minnows at home" and this is what his answer was (copied from original email);
- You would require an Aquaculture License if you plan on culturing your own. I’ve never hear of it being done successfully.
If you just want to hold your own minnows you are limited to 120 as specified in the Fishing Regulations and you must have a valid fishing license.
Cheers,
DJ
