Fall Muskie Discussion

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Now, as for trolling spinners at 5-7 MPH, I think it’s a little late in the season for me. Would be nice to know if it was still working for some people, but I’ve been having my luck on shallow cranks in water slightly deeper than 5-7’.

In the summer, I had all my luck trolling around 10 FOW at around 4.5 MPH with Fudally’s and River Rats alongside weed beds.

I’ll be trolling cranks again this weekend and will throw in some casting as well to try and persuade some big girls to bite.

I caught mine last week going 5-6 mph , i kept telling my cousin to slow down,
Ryan....how did you know what speed you guys were trolling at?????

I don't by any means consider myself a pro! I know way too many people that are so much more experienced than me to say that.

I am still learning and hopefully will never stop learning

I have worked to hard to get to where I am in muskie fishing to spell it out for the world.

Even when I am paid to do seminars I never give up the system. I'll give enough information to help and if one listens well he'll come out ahead no mater who's speaking. I mean I'm not going to sell my system when getting paid $300-$700 for a one hour seminar.

As well when I am hired to guide I am going to do my best to hook my clients up no mater what but I'm still not going to go all out and spill the beans about my spots or techniques.

Worse thing is on a site like this so many more are reading then those posting.

There's a long time big name guide who's still strugling with cold water so don't feel bad.

I'm always willing to help anyone but there are limits as to what information I'm dishing out and especially if it's in a public forum.

Now lets try and help a little bit here. If I was you I would start looking for baitfish as with the cooling temps of the last week most baitfish have moved out of the weeds and the muskies won't be too far. And if you still find green weeds don't be afraid to fish them especially on a warm day like this upcoming weekend. Same thing with speed, we tend to slow down as water cools but do not hesitate to speed up with the warming trend this coming weekend.
Catch and release them all

Ridiculous........Put up a thread....wait an hour....if nobody respond's....... go postal.....

That'll work

MW, enough with negativity all the time, muskies are a different game. Its' one thing to give tricks, spots, whatever when you are talking bout fish at high densities. Another thing when you are talking bout fish that are few and far between.

Like it has been said, work it out for yourself, what worked yesterday might not today. Keep in tune with things and use yer head. Much more satisfying when ya figure it out for yourself.

24/7's got the right attitude......

To start off with, I never suggested any spots...if you actually read what I had written....I was talking about structure and basic techniques not everyone's tricks.

It's the things like, for this upcoming weekend, with the warming weather to not be shy to find some weeds...That's a great pointer...that's the kind of stuff that us weekend fisherman like to hear. I don't fish where any of you guys go...trust me because I've never seen any of you on the water, so really, if you told me where to go, it wouldn't help me one bit.

Yeah, I think I've been pretty successful for only being on the water once every week or two so that doesn't leave me with a ton of time to examine everything, so when tips like, looking deeper in the fall for baitfish comes across, I listen.

In any case, if anyone wants to learn what I know about muskie fishing, which I've only been doing for a few years now, I'm willing to share....

Thanks MuskieWannabe. My buddy caught a nice 45 inch muskie in the big bay in Rockland on Sunday. He's not a FishHawker but the advice he gave me is go fishing with a buddy as they can be difficult to catch and release on yer own.
Thanks also to Trophymuskie for the tips as well. I'm really a carp/ sturgeon type of guy and have my own little tricks for those critters as well. I'm sure most folks here on the 'Hawk know that these are not the easiest of fish to catch but Muskies being predators make them more appealing to most.

Thanks again everyone for the help :D :D :D

I would like to offer my advice for catching "the fish of 1000 casts", but sadly, if that's true, I'm owed about 3 muskies this year...lol...On a serious note, I haven't been able to reel in one of these beauties, but I will...

Osgoode....I know a few spots in and around there.....I might be hitting it next week one day after work.....I think I'll be trolling shallowraiders just off from where the weeds typically end....pretty well the whole area along where the Kemptville creek flows into the Rideau....dandy spot. On the Rideau on the opposite side from where the creek flows in, I htink there are a few bouy's out there, just troll between them in and around 15 FOW....That's what I'll be trying next week, as long as the floating weeds are totally terrible!

The floating weeds are a pain in the azz right now!!...

Here's a tip to try and keep the floating weeds from sliding down your line and onto your lure. Position your rod holder downwards so that the tip of your rod is submerged in the water....that way the rod will pick up the weeds and prevent most of them from sliding down the line!!
