TROUT TRIPPIN 2008

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Can I use a inflatable boat with electric trolling motor to get to point around the lake and troll?

Its not wavy and windy like big rideau lake is it?

I cant stay for 2-3 nights, I plan to start from ottawa at 5, get there at 6:30 and start fishing till sunset.

What time is best to fish there?
Don't know how your inflatable handles....as far as waves it's like any other lake. It mainly depends on the wind direction...it can get rough if there's a NE or SW wind but you can also get into some back bays which are more sheltered when it is windy...
Jeez Steve for someone who has not been to the lake in a while you sure got that exactly right  What a memory..And here Don said you were to old to remember things

Don: Don't worry about the money situation for this weekend. I will have some burgers etc for Sat lunch and I am sure I can offer you a giggle pop or two...Come on up it will be a good trip.

I will have some balloons tied to the dock but from the lodge just go directly to the other end of the lake...We will swing by if we get all our stuff in line and leave on time...

As for the fishing..Anywhere from 20-60ft down in 30-100ft of water I will be trying...Trolling mostly but always try jigging when Im up there...Bait well now thats a secret  but try a silver Williams wobbler, or live minnows from the lake...Also maybe a gang troll with Silver black Ripplin Red Fin...As for which kind of trout is easiest to catch I would have to say the ones at the grocery store  ..But usually the rainbows 8) ..

Don: The shed is very cozy...Not much in it except a few mice

It all depends on the water temperature...I'm presuming that that it's still in the 50-60F range...I will be trolling and casting with the fly rods and flies for rainbows...

I'll probably switch over to downrigging for Lakers later in the day...

I would suggest trolling around with an attractor/troll (spoon) and mono leader (12-18") and worm hugging the shoreline and then moving outwards as the day goes on....

Or, try trolling with a williams wobbler, whitefish, or cleo and flat line with 100 - 200' of line out from the back of your inflatable...

The water is still cold.....please wear your life jacket!!!

Trout Trippin 2008 - Report

Post by troutnmuskiehunter »

I finally got the chance to meet Peter (Almontefisher) in person and all I can say is: he's a super nice guy....thanks Peter for the invite up to your Lake.. :D ...I had a great weekend!!

It all started early Friday morning....loaded up the truck and boat and off I went to start the Trout Trippin 2008 weekend....

Made a few pit stops along the way and got to the lodge around 9:30AM where I was greeted by my hosts, Helga and Wolfgang Dietz from Mosque Lake Lodge.... what a nice couple they are!! Super spot and great prices!!!

Wolfgang came out to help me launch the boat and he had a bug net jacket on....it didn't take long for me to frantically look for mine as well because the blackflies were in full force that morning and were relentless along the shoreline!!!

Here's the view from the lodge...Peter's cottage is directly at the opposite end of the lake from where we were.....3-5 min boat ride max...

Image

Got the all the gear out of the truck and into my cabin which is named the "Pioneer"......It's a nice little rustic log cabin (a little smaller than mine at home  ) that has a full fridge/freezer, new stove/oven, flush toilet, BBQ, party deck 8) and cold running water...Here's some pics....

This is the "main entrance hallway"

It's been over 20 some years since I fished Mosque so I decided to take a tour around the entire lake and back bays to refresh my mind with the water depths/shoals....you have to be cautious on this lake as there are many rock shoals that appear out of nowhere!!! One thing that surpised me was the 60.8F water temp....pretty warm for this time of year... While I was checking the lake, I decided to throw a line out and ended up shaking off a lot of persistant perch that found the fly that I was using irresistible  ....those species weren't in this lake when I fished it many moons ago!!

I also caught this little fella that I'm not sure what it is....is it a fall fish, or some type of sucker???
