Part of the sale on my new boat was an upgrade on the bow-mounted Electric motor. My problem is they replaced a 12v with a 24v so I am lost now....
What is the proper battery hook-up configuration for converting from a 12v trolling motor that was on the boat to a 24v system for the new trolling motor?
I also need some recommendations on Onboard chargers for the twin deep cycle batteries. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you feel uncomfortable using name brands here please PM me. Thanks a million.
Mt is correct.
what you will do is connect the positive terminal of one of the batteries to the negative terminal of the other. that will give u 24 volts
There may be some wiring considerations at the bow plug but i can't say as plugs and hook-ups could vary.
I believe you would connect both of your positive leads from the batteries to either 1 or 2. Then start your day fishing on 1. Then when the battery starts to run low, switch over to 2.
Might be an easy way to make the most of your 2 batteries with only a 12v trolling motor instead of physically changing over the battery terminals.
I have 2 -12 volt deep cycle batterys hooked together as Ed said(that rymes)used them for two full days with no recharge I have a on board duel bank charger.when i come home from fishing...just plug the boat in and forget it til;l the next time I go out! In fact I left it plugged in all winter it goes into a maintance mode!!......the best thing I have ever purchased....well next to my Tubes
Hey guys you might want to check out the Technology that charges all the batteries while you run the engine, AC 110 and while you pull the boat. www.stealthcharging.com

Next time I see ya Big-O I would like to see your setup.
Got everything rigged for launch this weekend. Thanks for the input guys.... now about those onboard chargers.... hmmm Mike at Baitcasters is an electrician and if I get the charger there... hmmmm
I am getting too old to be hauling batteries around.... still younger than that old Big-O fella though.....
Just kidding you Big O ...... Nice to see Junior on the top of the chart again eh.... watch out for them Fords though...

I also run 2 - 12V Batteries wired in Parallel. I like to use my Minn Kota power drive bow mount for trolling with the autopilot so I need the extra reserve power. I have trolled all day with the two battery setup.
I am presently runing one until I pick up another onboard dual bank charger, mine seems to have quit working.

I would have thought that hooking 2 batteries in parallel would have opened the potential for an over abundance of available amperage. Mind you, I guess a unit can only draw as much as it was designed for.
Does this draw both batteries down at the same rate? Hence twice as long on the water?
What woud happen in this scenario if you mixed a 24 and a 27 deep cycle together?
paralel you add the amps eg: 2) 500 cold cranking amps(cca) 12 volt batts =1000 cca 12 volt. 2) 500 cca 12 volt in series = 24 volts 500 cca
sorry for the cca but im a mechanic and i know it to be true with cca would ASSume it is same with amp hour ect. using 2 different sizes would be ok too.
Well after careful shopping I have ordered my onboard charger from Baitcaster's this past weekend. Oh won`t it be nice to be able to not have to lug those heavy monsters back and forth from the boat anymore. Gotta love technology.
I was also able to order a friggin rainsuit in a size over 2xl finally after a three year search.... have you ever seen someone flying along in a bassboat with a poncho wrapped around his neck like an anoconda on a bushpig....
I will feel proud be wear my new rainsuit and remain dry and warm like the rest of the folk this year.... and it didn`t bust my bank account to pick it up either. This is going to be a very good year .... I can feel it. Or am I just happy to be fishing again?
