Bass Fishing today

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Bass Fishing today

Post by taylor »

This snow hasn't done us any favors with the ice. I decided not to venture to far out and went to a sweet little spot for smallies. I love the taste of winter smallmouth. The fish were hungry and it didn't take long to have a limit on the ice.

The mink were hungry also. I had two of the little guys watching me, so after filleting out the bass, I tossed a carcass to each of them. They ran off with them.

I'm going to try that new fish batter on the market from Cronzy. I'm looking to get back out for more real soon. The little guys are often what you catch, but today the 3 to 4 pounders seemed agrressive.

Such a kind gesture to feed the wee little Minks the carcasses after fileting.... but did you atleast leave a piece of skin on the fish so that it could be identified while transporting the filets home or to your freezer?

Since SM is still only open on the Ottawa and St. Lawarence, the ice must be forming up pretty good. If the weather keeps up the canal will definitely be open for skating over Xmas.

Here's another good one from you:
taylor wrote:The freezer was empty of walleye fillets, so we made our way back to the Bay of Quinte. 3 anglers and we had 2 coolers packed with limits by 2:30pm.

Lots of cleaning, but well worth it.

You have to love fishing when it's that hot.
Where's the pics to share with all your buds   ....

Jasonb, yes I eat 3-4 pound smallies. Why wouldn't I? They have 3-4 times the meat a 1 pounder would.

Slop, I just scrap a fillet off each side and toss the carcass. I leave the skin on. It's easier to dispose of a little skin than the whole carcass at home.

Spence, I agree they taste no better and they taste no worse. Cold water has a way of making white meat fish taste fantastic. I got a pile of crappie yesterday and yes, they taste great.

Badger and TroutnMuskieHunter - you're input is nothing more than harressment. Buzz off. FH has moderators now, your self proclaimed post policing isn't needed.

Note to all! Last year there was a winter season for bass in division 12(ottawa river). This year they changed it so bass is closed on November 30th. Taylor not sure where you are fishing or if you are aware of the changes ,although dont see anywhere that is legal now.... People here sometimes jump on situation's not always justified but we all agree on one thing keeping fish out of season is wrong and if they see somebody on the ice doing this most will not hesitate to call the co's.

It could be an honest mistake on your part or i have got the story wrong but regardless pick up the new reg's and check em out

Sorry Taylor did I offend you? Well I guess I will just have to watch my step, buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

But honestly , why do you always chime in on other legit posts and insult people? Remember your posts about our get togethers basically calling us fat guys who do nothing but eat? And many others. So forgive many of us who doubt your post are legit.

Ok mods give me crap now for stirring more but I am tired of this jazz and so are others.

Made an error with my regs, there are still a couple spots stat bass is open like pikangikum which is 300 miles north of kenora and mayby a couple others.

All the areas that bass are open are 10hrs plus away.
