what to use for rainbow trout?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

i have used power bait (paste) in orange and pink color (bought from canadian tire), roll it up like a small ball and put it on a salmon hook (hide the hook in the paste), with some weight and light line.. this was in a stocked lake up in quebec side, caught lots over the summer.

Silver Williams Wobbler or a Ripplin Red Fin will work in Silver and Black...or my all time fav...minnow on hook with gangtroll on lead core and 6lbs mono on the lure end.

Depends on the lake and oftimes you can throw the whole tackle box at them and still go home fishless :-) I agree with the long leader suggestion from almontefisher and I might go as far as suggesting to not use swivels or anything else on the end of the line except the lure if you are going to go bait-less. I almost always default to a plain silver wobbler or whitefish type lure if trolling or plain silver vibrax if casting/retreiving.

I've always had my best trout fishing in rivers, using Panther Martin spinners in various colours and sizes. You can top the hook with about 1-2cm of worm and it usually helps.

I find trout in rivers really like these Panther Martin's, but in lakes, a small spoon or larger spinner work better.
