gill nets found in kingston

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

gill nets found in kingston

Post by getnjiggywithit »

I spotted a few gill nets in the kingston area  Also a few large fish traps full of bullheads, perch, walleye, and even a few pike  The gill nets were full of dead slim covered fish rangeing from bullheads, perch, walleye's ,pikes... basicly anything that swims:evil:  Ive been keeping an eye on the nets for a little while now and they have been there for going on 2weeks now   Dosen't look like the owners of the nets really care about harvesting the fish at all and the worst part is that they are like 50-100 feet from shore  One of them completly blocking off the mouth of a creek   and was so full of dead rotting fish I could barely lift one corner    Needless to say the fishing sucked not even a nibble nadda ... The fish traps are big and I mean big! The hoops were atleast 5 feet in diameter and about 20-30 feet long! I don't have a problem with a few fish being speared to feed there families, but when I see thousands of fish being killed for nothing and being left to rot ...it makes me angry very angry    The MNR wants to pretend that they know nothing about it even after several people have phoned in about issue! Since complants fall on deaf ears what is one to do????

if you want action...contact David Ramsay's (Minister of Natural Resources) office at Queens Park. His phone# is 416-314-2301..

I would also contact the the O.F.A.H. 705-748-OFAH (6324) and tell them you want to make a report regarding poaching....These guys have been very helpful in the past with regards to taking action to ensure that our voice is heard...

I would also contact the local media.

Are the nets marked? I'm pretty sure you need to mark your nets with your name and the number of your netting permit. If they are marked, the culprit(s) shouldn't be too hard to find. If they're not marked, they are illegal and I wouldn't hesitate to cut them myself.

Any waste, especially such a large one, is disgusting. :x

I hope you'll try to follow up on this, Jiggy...it's infuriating, but also sad.

Hey Jiggy

I noticed some yellow markers at creek by Dupont/Invista, north of Front Rd. I was wondering if that was a net, and if not, who put them there and for what purpose. Did you notice those.

Drove by today on the way to work, there must have been 10 cars parked there fishing.

Sounds like pointing fingers to me. In this country we call home there are all races living in the area so could be anyone. This is terrible to hear that fish are being wasted and for nothing. I hope the people responsible get what they deserve.

nets

Post by g unis »

logic has it natives have rights to netting and trapping. the post was not to upset anyone. my staement stands as perfectly logical. . yes there are many backgrounds and nationalitys in canada. first nation people are the only ones with these aborignal rights other then commercial netting and mnr. with pressures on fish stocks and native rights dont you think my staement is responsible

Well the nets were being lifted today around 3:45pm...

There were 4 guys in a big welded Macintosh style boat with
2 outboard motors on the back.
