canoe or kayak fishing

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Hey Joco,

Have you ever tried one of these to troll with from a canoe or kayak?

Hi Joco,

You are seriously equiped. I am planning some small and self-powered boat time this summer, but its going to take me awhile to get up to that level of equipment.

Yep troll with that all the time.

Joco, I'd recommend a few leashes for your stuff. Better safe than sorry. I'd also recommend a flag for increased visability. I'll be flying one this year.

Gussser, you're probably doing it all wrong, or in the wrong place. First of all, use nothing but topwaters. And you gotta fish where they are. Try right downstream from one of those rental places.

Wow, Joco, that's a lot of stuff.
I tend to keep the gear to a minimum, because simplicity is one of the joys of kayak fishing. (And because I'm a very big guy in a very small boat.)
Here's what I bring:
One primary rod and reel (and a backup stowed under the rear deck if I'm going to be far from the camp or my car).
One flat Plano utility box of lures and terminal tackle.
A couple of ziplock bags of soft plastics in my lifejacket pockets.
One DownEaster rod holder (removable, reliable and bulletproof).
One pair of needlenose pliers tethered to the boat.
One paddling knife attached to my lifejacket.
One lip-lock for dealing with any muskie or monster pike that comes my way.
Sunscreen, sunglasses, bottle of drinking water.
One of those collapsable emergency paddles.
That's about all I need.
