SAULT STE MARIE

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

from what I've seen, I think I'm the only one Bruin. Seems like I'm one of the few that moved here (of my own free will) instead of moving away, but then again, I've been wrong before.

Hey Bruin,
Once upon a time ago, haven't been back to the Sault in years, have very fond memories fishing specs out near Haydon.

Take care

congrats on the new job...didn't think there was much to pick from these days. When and where are you starting?
As for the salmon...it's been spotty at best. My buddy in Blind river thought it'd be a banner year, but it's seems to have run out of gas. I'm not a die hard salmon fisherman myself, but I make it down to the rapids 6 or 7 times a year and do just ok.

I work for the govt and got a transfer back to the soo....

I remember when you could walk across the tailrace on the pinks!
We used to go down on the rocks there and kick serious butt!....
We also did well down by the civic center...

Now that I have a boat (HINT HINT) I plan on trolling the mighty St Mary's for kings
Do people still seet up downriggers on the boardwalk!
I love that....someone would catch a fish and people would go mental waiting and watching him bring it in...Then they attach them to the great big stringer! AHHHHHHH I can't wait to be HOME

Bruin..I can't count how many times I've driven by the boardwalk and seen 6 or 7 guys trying to fish off the little extension. I don't know how they do it in that small space and not get their lines tangled. The funny thing is, I've never seen anyone pull a fish out of there...(not like the tailrace) . They seem to prefer long lining and using downriggers, but the guys in boats get downright nasty when the fellas on the boardwalk start using planerboards!! I've heard of boaters actually cutting the lines to the planerboards in order to get by and get closer to the tailrace.

What branch of the gov't are you with.. ( I'm guessing your not a CO ???)Maybe you can show me the finer points to hooking into a few nice salmon?

I think I've seen a few ex-sooites posting on this board from time to time. All I can say is I'm move back there in a second, just for the fishing. Too bad the job doesn't allow for it. I still get back each year to get wet in the rapids or head up to fish the superior tribs. Nothing beats it. Bruin congrats on getting a job where to can get back there, Here's a sample of what awaits you

I can't wait to get back next spring.

I'm not a CO...... but would love to be
I am looking forward to getting home...We used to ride our BMX's down to the locks...fishing all day and then riding home....
The only rule we had then was to be home by the time the street lights were on....BOY those days are gonzo.....

You can expect to see the relic down on the river next year

I won't be back in time for regular fishing but you may very well see me down on the entrance to the CAN locks icefishing for whitefish

AHHHHHHH excited to get home

Bruin, I'm jealous!! Are they hiring?
You didn't seem to be here long.(good for you) I'm from the Soo, and I've been trapped here for a little over 4 years now. I'm sad every time I pass the Husky on my way back to Ottawa from a visit home.
I've often considered becoming a hobo and living on Whitefish island.
(but with house prices... )

Its all in who you know....UNLESS you get transferred :D :D :D :D :D I have lived in the ottawa area for 5 years now....Started in Dows lake area (to many people) then into Kanata (to many snobs) then out to Constance Bay (loved it out there, but too far of a drive for work...Finally now in Carleton Place ( love it here too)

There are a lot of things I am looking forward to when I get home...LIKE

Mommas cooking
Awesome Fishing
SNOW- real and lots of it
NO FREEZING RAIN (thats just weird)
Friends
Family
No more 10 hour drives to visit
When I go on vacation I won't have to feel bad about not going home
Awesome fishing

Pinks are running late this year nes pas!???

AH i forget.....smelt fishing in April....

I remember going up to Harmony....freezing my bag off, catching as many smelts as I wanted and then gutting and cleaning a million of the buggers. Cooking em up as fast as we could clean em

There has to be more of us here!!!!!!!!!!
