crotch lake fishing and camping!

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Crown land is free to camp on unless you've got to cross someones property to get to it. I believe as far as Crotch goes, 94-95% of it's shoreline is Crown. Happy fishing. I hear worm harnesses but with minnows is the way to go for the eyes up there. For smallies I love my inline spinners, just keep 'em silver mostly.

Just got back from a weekend there. You will need a permit. $20 gets you 1 night camping, and parking for your vehicle. Permits can be picked up at the Golf Course club house at Tumble Home lodge.

The township (North Frontenac I believe it's called) sells permits for camping and parking in the area to help pay for maintenance of the roads downloaded from the province. There was a bit of controversy when they started because the permits were only available in a couple of places, and the muncipality has done a very poor job of publicizing and explaining the policy. Can't tell you much more because I haven't bothered with the area since they started charging fees. It's not the expense I object to, it's the hassle.

Permits can be purchased at the general store in Snow Road, Plevna general store, and at JJ's marine in Ompah.

You will definitely need a permit for camping at Crotch L. Furthermore, you may only camp at designated spots on the shore and on designated islands. At least once every other day and sometimes every day, there are "officers" who boat around the lake checking campers for permits, locations, and fires (when bans are in effect). I understand that the fines are rather salty for violations. I know this because I have been spending at least 3 wks. every summer at Crotch L. staying at Tumblehome and I see the "officers" frequently. All that said, Crotch L. is very beautiful and I am sure that you will have a good experience if you follow the rules.

Crotch lake camping

Post by Jigs »

Crotch is a beautiful lake.

The expense of a permit is more that paid for by island camping. Good clear water for swimming, and decent walleye and smallie fishing.

$20.00 a day for Tumblehome is a tad high though, would be paying the township fee. I believe its a lot cheaper.

Somewhere in my collection of maps of "places I usta go before I got so friggin messed up" is one of Crotch with good fishing spots marked. If I can find it I'll PM you the info.

Regards: Jigs.

You "need" a permit to camp on Crotch Lake. I put "need" in quotes as the authority that the township has to levy any fee/fine on users of Crown land seems suspect.

Crown land is supposed to be free to use by all. Like Sparky, I've stopped going to Big Gull/Crotch Lake ever since I had a visit from one of the "officers". He was a nice guy and all, but was not able to explain why i should pay to use Crown land. As far as I'm concered, if it's not private property - then it's not private.
