Port Hope question

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Port Hope question

Post by bm_attar »

I will be camping with the kids for a few days near Port Hope. I never fished for carp there before. Got a bucket of 3-week old fermented corn that I gotta use or the wife will kill me :-)

Any (carp) fishable spots at or around Port Hope?

Thanks,
BM

Right in the channel by the docks is a great spot. (In the town)

Its funny. There is a MASSIVE clean up of radioactive contaminants in that area.
People took materials from old nuclear buildings and used it to build in their homes.

The levels are low but still kinda disturbing.

I know that Cobourg Marina holds carp.
I would try the mouth of the river ONLY if trout fisherman have finally left lol

I've seen a few guys setup for Carp on the far side of the Ganny right near the bridge, I've never seen em bank a fish but I'm never there long to watch.

Thanks a lot guys. I will check these areas out while scouting.
Hopefully, I won't hook into any radioactive carp :-)

AECL is in charge of the cleanup. I know an AECL guy who collects radiological data on the fish. Every fish is well below natural background. It'd have to be or you would hear about it all over the news and there would be a ban on eating them. The general contamination levels in the Port Hope area is ridiculously low.
