Fall Splake Trip

Wow .. really nice fish ... yeah I can see why you'd want to mount that one ... I'm heading for brook trout/lakers and perhaps splake in algonquin next spring ... I've never fished splake ... is it the same lures and presentation as brook trout or lakers (or both)???

We'll be bringing the fly rods and spinners ... if you have any suggestions I'd appreciate the advice.

The colouration on that fish is unreal.....very nice.

I guess my Mom should have named me "Mike"....the only two guys I know that have those lakes somewhat figured out are both "Mikes".... :lol:

Just getting back to a computer now....Fisherguy, the first fish is definately a splake, exactly like the one in this pic,... that I caught yesturday morning :)

Tip-up... the weight was 9.8lbs on the first one.

I'll take your word for it but those are the most speckly looking splakes I've ever seen and I've worked in a hatchery.

I can't stop shaking my head..........or coming back to this thread...... Mike send me your email address. I'm sure the mnr guy who tracked me down about my fish would like to know about these two.

We ended the day catching two more, one just under the size of the one in the pic, the other smaller.


Decided to have this fish mounted because of it`s colour.
I just had to bump this report and photo back to the top. No additional comments to add beyond the WOW factor, but I do love the Halloween colors in this fish. Trick or Treat :lol:

MY GAAAAAWD MIKE!!! :shock:

I don't think I've ever seen a splake that beautiful. In fact, I know I haven't. That equals any trout/char perfect specimen right there. Stunning. Jaw dropping. Impressive for ya... congrats and it's going to be an amazing mount. :D

No words....except that it does look a lot like the old quebec reds I used to catch in La Belle Province. How did you determine (for sure) it is a splake? Being a hybrid I know they can fall visually anywhere between a Laker or a Speckle but I can't get over how strikingly similar it looks to a true Speckle.

Either way though, nicely done.
