The biggest enemy of onboard chargers is heat. The units are sealed and not affected by moisture. Any true solid state technology is not likely to experience shock failure.
Installation space is always a problem and the development of a proper heat sink is the solution in conjunction with a quality regulator.
My friends at Stealth Technologies are in the process of solving the heat problem and I expect that within the next 2 weeks there will be a major announcement relative to their solution.
Regulating the charge rate appears to be a common problem across the manufacturing spectrum of on-board chargers and that is where the heat issue originates from.
