Your GF doesn't need to know how to fish but she needs to enjoy it, for you it's a fishing trip, make it a holiday for her. Get up make the coffee and cook for her, and do the dishes, or at least pay someone else. Let her use youre good gear not your backup, when she hooks a good one let her play it,don't start screaming instructions, it's her fish not yours. And at the end of the day let her know you liked having her there with you. 25 yrs today for Greymist and I, she may not be the best fisherman I ever met but she still likes fishing and I like her being with me. PS when you get to having kids start a new thread, there is a lot more you need to know!Is fishing important when meeting a girl?

Urbanfisherman I've been watching this post a couple of days and feel the need to respond. A couple of things, Buzzer said it right the couple that plays together stays together. Happy Aniversary fff ! My wife loves to fish with me in fact shes going to Alabama in april with her chat room groop fishing. The down side with two brats ( did I say that outloud?) it can be a struggle to jugel baby sitters to go fishing. But I would rather have her fishing with me than waiting home for me.
Then there's the flip side of what to do about women who fish too much. Boys, let me tell you there is NOTHING more emasculating than being consistently outfished by your wife - and then have to listen to her whine about "how sore her wrist is" and not being able to pound her like you would if it was a male fishing buddy.
It almost makes me want to take up knitting.....nahhh

HEY FFF,you summed it all up a little patience and a helping hand goes a long way,I am hoping to bring her to westmeath for the get together,no cooking or dishes and lots of fishing and knowledge on hand,sounds like a VACATION

Many years ago my wife and I are trolling along when she said that she was caught on bottom............AGAIN
. Third time in about 100 yards and she wouldn't let me change the spoon to a floatin rap cause she "liked the colours."
So I grabbed her rod and gave it a yank, and almost got pulled out of the boat. Gave it back to her and she brought in a 9.5lb. pike. My personal best at that time was about 6lb.
.
Then she asked if she could stop fishing for the day because she had "hurt her wrist" bringing in the "big big big" fish............
So we pulled up on an island and "Cronsey" here did the shore dinner thing with a huge pike. Good thing we had a cooler with us cause there was lots to take home. Today of course we would have weighed it, measured it and let it go 
(wanna buy a bridge?)

Jan Lake, 2 years ago we were drifting/trolling bottom-bouncing minnow for eyes across a particularly hot point. She was still fairly new to fishing so I'd help her get set up, make sure the boat was lined up right and all that before dropping my line...only trouble was I could never get my line down cuz she'd have another fish on. It was kinda cute for the first ohhh, hour. After that it was actually getting annoying. We tried jigging but that day the fish definitely wanted a moving target. The kicker was when she actually started to complain that her wrist was getting tired and sore.
The happy ending is that we still fish together every week, which means I get to fish almost as often as I want, I never have to argue to get permission to buy tackle or as recent events showed even buy a brand new boat.
The unhappy ending is she still outfishes me by at least 3-1 in numbers. BUt I got the Musky nahh-nahh

To add to gorfman comments. Gorfman is my uncle and I remember going out with him often and enjoying the surrounding and the scenery. This is why I involved my whole family ( wife, daughter, and son ). Gorfman is correct when he says my daughter out fishes him but if anybody out there knows gorfman that's saying alot.
