crayfish

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Yeah... I saw that particular Ontario regulation when i was looking for baitfish regulations after a recent thread. Caught me off guard because i always used to put any that i found into a container for later use.

Anyone know when the crayfish transport ban was put in place and why? I assumed that it must be about them being "invasive" in some lakes, streams, rivers. It could be a crayfish disease thing but i just had a thought... They might be a carrier of zebra mussels on their exoskeleton.

Yes, there is a similar invasive that people amy not be able to distinctly identify:

"Rusty crayfish may be confused with species of crayfish that are found in Ontario, including the native northern clearwater crayfish (O. propinquus), the native virile crayfish (O. virilis), and the introduced obscure crayfish (O. obscurus). None of these species have a pinched rostrum, black claw bands, or rusty patches on the shell."
