Agreed, companies seem to be going in the right direction as of lately, but i still love my true JDM'sBradGuenette wrote: Also doesn't help that these BFS reels are pretty much only available in the JDM market, and most have no idea what that is all about.

Then we should explain what it is that we are talking about.BradGuenette wrote:

BFS = Baitcasting Finesse System
JDM = Japanese Domestic Market
I might be wrong but I think Paddletales has the Shimano Aldebaran 50 in stock.
Check with Ed.
I believe the 6.5 ratio are available now.
The 7.4 ratio will be available in August (but I might be wrong).
Here is a link to Shimano North America. Nice Reel.

Can't argue with that, Shimano hit a home run bringing this over to the North American market.
Still ain't no spinning reel though

Yes I know ... Biggs got the same reel (brand new) for a super good price.
The Shimano Aldebaran BFS XG Limited sure looks interesting ...

Re: Spinning Rods? who uses them still???
A big advantage for me is the fact that spinning reels have an audible drag. I want to hear that drag sing when I'm fighting a smallie with light line and I want to know that I'm not reeling against the drag. I'm constantly adjusting my drag if I happen to get into a decent fish. Nothin worse that breaking off a fish on light line because your drag was to tight. JonTheMaverick wrote:I have owned a few, ended up selling them.
Would like to own at least one spinning outfit once again lolol
What are the benefits and advantages a spinning combo will have over a finesse baitcaster that has a shallow spool? (Shallow spool resulting in better spool inertia for lighter lures).
Is it preference only at this point?

Re: Spinning Rods? who uses them still???
Frank,
You can get an Aldebaran BFS for a whole lot cheaper than that. They are $260ish (USD) on other sites but japantackle offers a lifetime (6 years) warranty on many of the reels they sell.
Jon, I totally understand the drag thing. I just don't smallie fish enough to care. I used to use a spinning combo for jerkbaits but have since bought a dedicated setup (actually went through two) for jerkbaits and once I found the perfect combo, I was sold.'
I'm not saying there isn't a place and time for spinning combos, I just prefer the use of baitcasters for most of my applications. I doubt I will ever go without one l, I just don't see a need for multiple. Plus, my 702sf doubles as my perch/everything else rod...
This could be the large fisherman coming out of me though.

Re: Spinning Rods? who uses them still???
Funny you bring this up today Adam. I just finished reading an article in the latest Field and Stream on finesse bass fishing using sensitive spinning outfits with light line and finesse baits to catch big bass. It's in fashion now on the pro circuit, specially for pressured bass. Without getting into it too much here's a link to the article. http://www.fieldandstream.com/articles/ ... r2&lnk=IMG

Re: Spinning Rods? who uses them still???
I'm in shock about this to be honest.
I use spinning rods for the following:
Senkos
Drop shot
Tube dragging deep
Tube pitching shallow
Hair jigs
Jerkbaits (though I don't jerkbait often)
For my money there is very few if any better experiences Bass fishing around here than a 4 to 5 lb Smallie on a 7'2" Spinning rod Dropshotted in 28-32 FOW. It's actually fun and not a 3.2 second fight to land the fish.
You guys that don't drop shot should try it, you'll start to think very different of Largies..

I have not started to do the research. I need to replenish the fishing budget.lape0019 wrote:Frank,

If I do get a dedicated BFS reel, I will look at the "Shimano Aldebaran BFS XG Limited Japan model".
Shimano Aldebaran BFS XG Limited 2015 Aldebaran BFS XG Limited Edition
Gear Ratio: 8.0
Weight: 140g
Max Drag: 3.5kg
Line Capacity (Fluorocarbon): 8lb - 45m
Ball Bearings: 8
Roller Bearings: 1
Line Retrieve per crank: 80cm
Japan Angler which is where I get most of my new Reels is at $285 US
I also have the option of buying a Megabass HONEY COMB SPOOL for my Zonda.
Comes in for a cool $150 US (lolol), but still less expensive than a whole reel. LOLOL

Both gear ratio's of Aldebarons are in now in right hand. Lefty's supposed to be here in June. The Aldebaron on an 852c NRX is my drop shot setup this year.

Re: Spinning Rods? who uses them still???
Very important tool for many applications... Everyone is talking wacky, but even my Texas rigged senko set-up is spinning and I have no worries about pulling fish out weeds and cover with it. It's a real meat stick. Big plus also is the ease of making long skips under docks and cover with a spinning set-up.
I don't really see the advantage of the BFS unless your really hate spinning outfits. You really don't know what your missing. In complete shock as well RJ

Re: Spinning Rods? who uses them still???
Aside from a few applications that call for their power only, I pretty much don't bother with baitcasters much at all. Agree with Brad, probably because they don't feel as comfortable as they're not what I grew into fishing with... and they're more expensive. And with bass, I only understand their use for a few applications, otherwise most of it can be done with spinning gear. To each their own really...BradGuenette wrote:I don't know if it's because I grew up fishing walleye, but a spinning rod in my hand in deep water just feels right <3
Re: Spinning Rods? who uses them still???
That is exactly the rod I was thinking of for an Alderbaron. I think it would also be good for jerk-baits.toobinator wrote:Both gear ratio's of Aldebarons are in now in right hand. Lefty's supposed to be here in June. The Aldebaron on an 852c NRX is my drop shot setup this year.
