I will be in North Bay this weekend to visit family. I am going to bring along my hard water gear and hopefully slip out a side door to use it. Is there anyone willing to provide some advice for this area? I may be able to get out Saturday morning. Bait shops open, what their hitting, and areas close to NB (I’m sure to get the eye if I am gone for 5 hours).
I would return the favour to anyone wanting to fish the Ottawa river around Constance bay area.
Hey bud. Lake nippissing would be your best bet if your working with a timeline. Grab your minnows at discount bait and tackle 2150 trout lake road...medium shiners will do fine . As for finding a spot, head down to the lake front and you should see tons of ppl out there. Walleye aren't to fussy this time of year on nippissing so any presentation with the bait will do fine.
They are only a couple blocks from the waterfront so this is perfect. Can you drive out there? Or is it a park and walk out area? I will not be bringing my hut with me, just a sled with my gear anyway.
Scotty is right about it not being to difficult to find where to fish and others who are fishing. I was born and raised there and moved to Ottawa 8 years ago. There isn't much in the way of structure on Nip, so its just a matter of being in the spot when they come through. The bait shop Scotty mentioned is likely the closest and there's Bob's bait further on Trout Lake Rd. (Its on Trout Lake, but still closer than the other shops I know of).
You could definitely drive out there just be careful of the pressure cracks, if you follow where others have driven and watch your speed, you should be fine. Obviously, sunset is the prime time to go, and it still isn't the premier Walleye destination it used to be, but there's still some big fish in there. Good luck and be mindful of the slot size (if the walleye is between 15.7 and 23.6 inches it must be released) and reduced limits (Sport - 2 and Cons - 1).
