Having also never fished crappie bay at Petrie island, I figured what better place to try for crappie than at the bay named after them.
Maybe seeing fisherguy33's report from a couple of days ago had something to do with it as well.

Tuesday morning I headed out for a solo mission and after catching a few perch I moved to an area that was littered with previous holes that had frozen over.
I thought something was wrong with my flasher or thought I might be sitting over an underwater tree since my flasher was lit up almost from top to bottom... that is until the "tree" started moving!
No more than 10 minutes in... *drum roll* ...My first ever crappie!

Oddly enough, even with all the fish I was marking, the bite was sort of slow.
I did manage to catch a few more with some of these guys mixed in.

Now I do have a question... Some people say this is a sunfish, which it is, but what kind of sunfish?
I believe this might be a bluegill but others tell me it's a pumpkinseed. Anyone know for sure?

Something I learned on this trip out... A flasher can help you mark fish but that doesn't mean they'll bite.

BTW, all my fish were caught on a super small white Rapala jigging rap tipped with various small Gulp baits.
This was the biggest crappie of the day.

Every fish caught was put back for someone else to catch.
Next on the list... TROUT!
