nickname origins

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Grumpy

Post by grumpy7790 »

What's the point of this thread anyway.......

Who wants to know and why......

EEERRRRR :x :x :x :x

People who work with me in the morning know why I'm called Grumpy, most know not to talk to me till after 10:00 or after my third coffee.

The 7790 is an EE# because there are too many other Grumpies out there.

In my ballplaying days I was legendary for my lack of footspeed. One day at practice guys were bugging me about it, so I told them I had to go slow. I couldn't use my astonishing God-given speed because the sparks from my spikes would set the bases on fire. They started calling me Sparky and it stuck.

Nothing exciting about my nickname. As a matter of fact, it's pretty lame.

At the time, I was in the military and in the process of changing trade to become search and rescue technician. I was always involved in that field. One day, I needed to pick a name to log on to a web site. Did not have time to think of anything fancy so Rescue it was. The name already existed, so I tagged 78 to it as it was my firefighter number back then as a volunteer. My number changed when I became full time firefighter but I never bothered changing the name.

Now how lame is that :?:

Lucannus -

Actually an interesting story. And no its not my real name (Jon).

I was reading King Arthur ( everything I could find on him and era ) when I cam across a character named Lucannus , who was the doctor (or medicine man) for King Arthur Pendradon and close friend of Merlin the Mage.

Needed a name for a website and also wanted one that I wouldn't find someone else had. Hence Lucannus. Even named my first dog Lucannus.

Two negatives about the name is that in the end Lucannus dies of leperousy. And people make LEWD nicknames out Lucannus.

I remember when Fish-Hawk learned that Lucannus wasn't my real name " Really Luc? Huh.. I like Lucannus better, so that's what I will use"

You can call me by either Lucannus or Jon, I answer to both!

This one goes back to my high school football days. I was always kinda big for my age and thus was mistaken for older than I was. I held my own on the gridiron with kids a couple of years older than I and likened myself to the "Robin Hood" character "Little John". "Little Joe" was out, Bonanaza was a big show back then, when it was said that I played big, BigJoe was born. It still somewhat fits though my family still calls me joey!

Hoover is from my last name obviously, and thats what im called in ball and hockey or wherever, now my boat "Chaos Theory" is called that because we find we catch more fish with chaos, so we set as many lines have the baot a mess do odd patterns leave the net in a hard to get spot so there is a huge camotion when we get a fish on!

Well I stole mine off a friend who, when we were first using our FRS 's for hunting we'd talk back and forth and sometimes change names ... to be funny  . Well, one day he used " this here's the Banjo Minnow... come in!" and I just about pee'd my pants laughing, and remembering the logo for that company was

I mean... how can you beat that! :D I thought it was too funny and it was a couple of months later that I needed a handle for FishHawk.
Nope. I don't play the banjo :( :P

Hoover, I just assumed you were named after the vacuum company and figured since you were still in U that you must suck up beer like a shop-vac ... :D

When I suffer from delusions of Grandeur, I prefer to think of it as Greater Outdoors Recreational Fisherman. In actual fact , I don't always do thigns    in the correct order   so being a Canadian of french origins. my english freinds   call be gorf. for backward frog.

The 007 was attached as I intended to get my hunter's permit ie licence to kill er harvest.

When I was a kid growing up, i wanted to be in the airforce like my granpa, and I thought it would be cool to have my callsign be Ransome!!

Therefore I started my first email account which was ransome17@yahoo.com!

then when I started playing online WW2 games I used it as my nickname, so its just kinda stuck around!!
