I am so P.O. I could just throttle someone

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

I am so P.O. I could just throttle someone

Post by Mick »

So I take my boat in to get something done to it. I have a 15 minute conversation with the service guy to explain exactly what I want done with very clear instructions and the reason I needed it done exactly that way also very evident. He understood me clear as a bell.

When I was paying my bill I looked at the 1.5 hours of labour and thought to myself "wow, I guess they had a difficult time with it" I get her home, go to inspect it only to find out that I just paid for an hour an a half of labour to not fix my problem. They did not do what we discussed. And the funny part is that what they did do I could have done in half the time.

Hopefully, I will have clamed down by tomorrow morning when the place opens up again!!!

That right there is my biggest fear as a consumer. I have given up on hoping for things to be built right the first time... I accept that stuff is crap in general... so I rely on service to take care of things...

The brand new boat I purchased has a list of 5 things that are easily visible that are just wrong... and one that is so wrong you know someone saw it, then installed the next component wrong because it was easier to do that than to go back and fix the original mistake... argh....

Like I said, I accept that... fine... and I accept service departments (marinas) are frigg'n busy and everyone wants their boat for the weekend. So trying to be the fair and reasonable customer, I called ahead two weeks ago with my list including the *must have priority* (which is only the 20hr servicing) and the *nice to have* stuff fixed if they have. I was trying to give them a heads-up, and set the date/time expectation early as possible.

I called in again, two days before I was dropping off the boat to confirm that my *must have* can get done between Monday - Friday.

When I dropped of the boat on Monday (7:30am), I did a walk around to show the issues, and re-emphasized that I need the boat back Friday at 3pm and the only mandatory item is the 20hr service... All other items would be great if they can get done but I can live without for a while longer.

I'll let you know how this turns out Friday. My suspicion is they will have most of my list done by Friday, because this place seems like a go-out-of-your-way to make people happy.

BTW; my list on a brand-new boat...

1) Control cables impossibly to long (but apparently nothing can be done) You cannot use the seat in the rear-raised casting deck location and turn the engine. Cables are in the way...

2) The trim-switch on the throttle is upside down (meaning someone goofed the wiring and installed the switch upside down to compensate)

3) A floor-locker/storage has the handle busted, it cannot be opened

4) The Livewell does not fill with water (pump runs but no water appears)... BTW, I was told that they had the boat on the water for their test/inspection and this got missed.

5) Someone dropped something on the hull and dented and scratched the transom... not major, but needs to be touch-up painted at least. Could have been a kicker motor installed at one point I'm guessing.

Agreed, some of them are minor, but it is a new 20k boat... so why should it not be put together right? I do believe that the dealer is taking VERY GOOD CARE of me and I have every expectation that my boat will be ready Friday at 3pm for me to go fishing at 3:45pm at the Manotick launch.

My wife had a similar problem with her ATV.
She stripped it down to clean all the mud out and change all the fluids etc.

She noticed on the belt mechanism that it was improperly installed. In that instead of putting on the gasket and assembling it properly the factory decided it was mush easier to use liquid gasket instead....

So rather than take it off, put on a seal and put it together properly they wanted to save time and chuck liquid gasket as a shoddy "fix-it" to the poor assembly work.

This is why whenever I purchase things I try to buy the best there is....
Loomis, PING etc...

Only once did I get burned and that was with my Rolex. But then I found out the problem is common on their watches.....which is they gain time.
Nice to know some folk spend upwards of $300k on a watch that doesn't keep time!

Does it happen to fill with beer? Because if it does that's a good problem to have.

If there was one law I would change it would be drinking (consuming) and driving on a boat.... I would love to have the ability to suck back a few cold ones on the water... I know the reason we do not allow this, but you cannot blame a guy for dreaming... 8)

On that note, I also feel that laws should be for everyone else and not apply to me...

:D :D
Not nice thing to here as Mick is a nice guy, used to tell me which pitch was coming if that made a difference I still couldn't hit it.... 8)

Any you guys got issues you need FIXED I can assist in that I'm sure. 8)

Thorough :? is not necessarily a word used in some service departments, I don't know why as one would think customer satisfaction not volume would be their priority, it definitely is mine.

I picked up my new boat for the walleye opener on the Bay of Quinte. I launch at 4:00 am at 4:15 am I barely get it back on the trailer. It is taking on water BIG TIME! The bilge pump isn't even working! Back to the dealer that is 1:15 min away and wait for them to open. The return hose for the live well wasn't clamped on! Plus when they drilled inside the hull the fileings were sucked up by the bilge pump. And they tried to tell me that they water tested the boat....... No mechanic on Saterdays there ....soo I installed the new bilge pump myself! I got back on the water at 1:00 pm I was not impressed!! I thought I went out and spent 30 grand so I would not have this trouble! Since then the fish finder has went for a crap!
