Need advice on fishing resort in Ontario next year ...

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Need advice on fishing resort in Ontario next year ...

Post by lhousesoccer »

I've been grounded for 2 years now from travelling with the boat to fish (I have a little one who's 2 1/2 years old !!), but next year, with our son at the age of 3, my wife and I want to finally plan a week's vacation and fishing trip with the boat and our son.

I have a few criteria in choosing a place, in order of most important to least :

1. Decent, clean lodging.
2. A nice waterfront, preferrably with a sandy beach/shoreline for my wife to lay out in the sun and my son to play in the sand and swim.
3. Fish to catch ! Preferred species, in no order, SMB, LBM, walleye & muskie.
4. A boat lauch/docking facilities for my 18' Ranger.
5. Not a terribly far drive from Vermont. I'm thinking anywhere in eastern Ontario and as far west as maybe the Haliburtons or the Kawarthas. Maybe the St. Lawrence River, Thousand Islands, Ottawa River, Rideau system and anywhere inbetween etc etc.
6. Price - reasonable, but we don't want to be in a dive. We want a nice, well-kept, clean place that won't kill our wallet.

I'm a fisheries biologist with the Vermont gov't, and manage bass on Lake Champlain. I'd be happy to exchange tips and information with anyone interested in bass fishing on Champlain. The catch-and-release season that starts in 141 days (yes, I'm going through withdrawl already) is absolutely out-of-control !!

Thanks for your time, and tight lines ...

Here is a nice spot to stay on the Ottawa River, http://www.pinecrestlodge.com/ I know the fish-hawk crew went there a few years ago and I think they enjoyed it. Rusty and Caroline are great folks and they always go out of there way to make sure there guests enjoy themselves. There aren't many muskie in that stretch of the river but Rusty has a few back lake spots a short drive from the lodge that have some beauty muskie in them. If you decide to come up this way make sure to let me know and I will gladly show you a few spots. Marty
