Go north for cold streams.....that is my only advice.....Won't find many around here........
Also, at this time of the year trout become really picky and hard to catch. They haven't been cooperating with me or anyone I know lately.....
They are the most finnicky little things in the world.......Too picky for my liking.....frustrating.....
I would give up on the trout dream until fallish.....and if you don't ice fish, hit the creeks, trout lakes right after ice is off......then they aren't down so low hiding and laying low......and they actually will eat your lure at that time of the year........Worms work well for trout, so do small minnows, creek chubs, suckers etc.
Make sure you use legal minnows, and don't use them in lakes where you aren't allowed.
Look in your ontario fishing guide, if you dont' have one, get one at a tackle shop or look online for regulations.
Years ago, me and my dad would go to this ditch near Thistle Springs Trout farm, actually now it's part of the JTF2 Commando base, but yah, we would use a net to net minnows and we would get all sorts of minnows, and there was even trout in the ditch! in a DITCH! weird eh? I assume they escaped from the trout farm.......
The water in the ditch was very high and VERY COLD all year round.
The sad part is, they "reshaped" the road or something, and they destroyed this cold water ditch which was more like a coldwater creek and had so much life in it. at least 20 different species of minnows in it. Escaped trout, and it connected to the Jock so maybe even other species. It was quite a large Creek/ditch.....
Very sad......I miss that place, too bad the city ruined it by doing maintenance on the Dwyer Hill road.............

did you catch them in the QC side or ON?
Ill be interested in going im new too trout fishing and just started this year so far so good. I did alot of searching on my own , its hard starting from scratch
but it paid off, hopefully one day ill find a cold stream that hold these babies
These trout were not that big and were caught on the Ontario side, in the Calabogie area. Not in a stream
Shiner Lake, just off the Centennial Lake Rd. has some good trout in it. Scully Lake apparently has some too, it's not that far up the Rd. either. Another good one, that I can't remember how to get to is Holmes' Lake.
Good Luck, and always looking to find some better trout fishing in the Calabogie area myself.
Back in the winter I had some luck out of Belanger lake up behind Barryvale Lodge. Very easy lake to get to and there's a bunch of lakes up that Rd. I believe it'll take ya all the ways to Ompah.
I never tired holmes lake before but i do fish on scully and shinner, i keep forgetting which is which so close to each other but yeah i guess im goin to just have to guess and check?
Does anyone know if you need a permit to camp at scully or shinner lake?
I don't think there is a place at Scully Lake to camp, I'm pretty sure it's a little close to private property.
No permit needed at Shiner Lake, just keep it clean there. There's a few nice spots there. And please don't take mine.
Shiner is right beside the Rd. The other one is a few miles back off the road.

yes i agre belanger is a nicew spot in the spring and good for camping adn a short drive from town and aslo before u get to belanger the oither lake ther is barry lake it has soe 4 pounders in it and also if u keep going down k&p towrds flower station there are some culverts after the flower staion inetsectin with trout goood luck everyone
We usually fish from the shore on these lakes so our preferred method is a slip bobber rigged between 6 and 12 feet down, depending how hot it is and how deep the lake is. Worms work but in some of the darker lakes if you can catch some minnows in it they work even better.
Lots of these lakes get hit hard in the winter and early spring so they get fished out pretty quick.
