Calabogie Trout Stream Report!!
well i've been fishing out in Calabogie (town west of ottawa) twice a week for 6 years now. so i've come to know the place very well and have fished a good majority of the stocked lakes back in the bush.
Like i said before i love TROUT fishin! and fishing out of a stream is probably the most exciting. well i finaly found a stream after years of searching/fishing. this stream has rainbows and browns. I've done alot of brook trout fishing up in quebec. But near Ottawa, no way i say! well like i said i found one!
I first got out to the stream and started to cast and drift. caught a couple suckers. noticed alot of big small mouth in this pool, so i decided to bush whack a bit more and found a nicer pool with fast flowing water and a seconde stream that was COLDER then ICE that empties into it.
First drift, BANG!!! FISH ON!! this one has a bit of weight i say to my brother. after a good minute without seeing it's face, i see a good flash, HOLY CRAP it's a Rainbow!! i land the bow, a 15 inch beast!! I look over to my brother and smile!! we found a trout stream with big BOWs in it!! I've been looking for this for the past 6 years!!!
so we continue to fish and we caught more bows, smallest was 12 inches, and the biggest 15. and we also caught a couple brown trout! smallest 10 inches and the biggest was 13 inches.
sorry no pics, but i'm definitly going back with the fly rod, man it was exciting!!!

Hmmmm....sounds like an interesting mystery the MNR could shed some light on. Since brookies are the only native trout, the bows and browns must have been stocked, yet there is no evidence that any rivers up in the Calabogie region have been stocked with bows and only two bodies of water are stocked with browns.

Funny you said that Todd cause I was thinking the same thing but did not want to give too much info on a certain area this would be in...Now you have spoiled itTodd B. wrote:Hmmmm....sounds like an interesting mystery the MNR could shed some light on.
