Mercury brand oil

Regular 4 stroke oil is SAE 10W-30
Merc part # 92-858046KC1 4L jug $25

For larger 4 stroke Mercs like 75hp and up use
SAE 25W-40 it is synthetic blend and better for larger engines and Verado
Merc part# 92-857493A01 4L jug $40

If you are going to use an after market oil make sure it is a good brand name and has to be SAE standard (for marine).

Haven't seen many marine 4s oils out there yet, you need FCW rated oil (Four Cycle Water) I'm still using the Mercury stuf.

Rider because of the rpm levels these four stroke motors operate at their oil MUST BE THE BEST you can use......

Regular automotive oil WILL NOT DO A PROPER JOB....

How many times do you hold your car engine at 5000 rpm but an outboard motor is designed to run at this level ALL DAY..

Todays marine oil has more detergents in them to be able to handle the excessive heat and load produced by 4 stroke outboards.....

I recommend using the manufactureers premium oil and change it at the proper intervals....REMEMBER THE OIL YOU USE WILL PROLONG THE LIVE OF THE ENGINE USING CHEAP OIL WILL NOT.....THIS GOES FOR FILTERS ALSO

The oil in your engine is designed to trap the byproducts of combustion and hold it in suspension so the debris doesn't score the bearings, the cylinder and the piston, these scores lower oil pressure and allow combustion gases to pass into the oil and contaminate it more than normal.... So because of this, marine 4 stroke oil is designed to handle the higher loads... So don't go cheap and change yearly or after the motor has the right amount of hours on it.....I have vehicles with over 300,000 kms because the oil is changed EVERY 5000kms...

OIL IS THE LIVEBLOOD OF YOUR ENGINE AND IT DESERVES THE BEST....
