Here is our group of 9 including myself,Rob,John,Roy,Frank, Steve,Mike, Randy, and JJ. We caught a few fish, had a lot of laughs and made the best of some pretty rough and tough fishing conditions.
Mike and I left the Ottawa area for the B. of Q. by 0600 and we were ready to launch our boat on the Bay by 0930.
The weather was clear and the wind started to pick up but we were thinking positive and were hoping for the best. It wasn't until 12:20pm that Mike finally gets a nice hit and brings in this beaut of a walleye a 9lber.
We fish until about 3:30pm with no other hits so we pull the boat out and head for Merland's just outside of Picton to see if the rest of the group has arrived yet. Randy, JJ, Roy, and John had just arrived and were unpacking when we got there and Rob and Frank and Steve were still on the water trying their luck. When they finally get back they didn't have any sucsses but enjoyed being out there just the same.
On Saturday Mike gets up nice and early 0530 and gets the coffee started and that wonderful aroma gets me up and we start to prepare breakfast for the group and we discuss our ideas on how best to address the day on getting some walleye into the boat but the wind is starting to pick up and we decided to launch the boat where we did yesterday up at the boat launch near Pryner's Cove and again it wasn't until 1225 that I finally land this 6.7lber.
. We fish until about 3:30 again and the wind is really starting to pick up and water isn't just splashing over the bow but right over the windshield at times. Thank goodness the water was warm but by this time we were having a hard time keeping the planer boards on the line.
I actually lost one to the wind and it is now lost at sea. The waves and the wind were so strong that by the time Mike gets his planer board in, and I get the boat turned around that board is gone, bummer
Well we call it a day, head back to Merland's and Rob, Frank and Steve have caught two fish one over 4 lbs and one over 10lbs. and they are heading out to the rough seas to try for more. Randy's crew arrive back with no fish but everyone seems to be in good spirits and still hopeful. Rob's boat arrives back by 5:00pm with no more fish and by this time the wind is really gusting and that ends the day. Sunday we decide to take one final kick at the can before leaving and the temperature has dropped down to 3degrees C and the winds have died down but we were able to get a 12 to 15 lb pike to the net but my net is just too small to bring the big beast in and it shakes the hook and slides out of the net to enjoy another day. Oh well I really didn't want that snot rocket anyway.
We fish until noon and decide that it is time to call it a day and we head back to pack things away and see how the rest of the group did. Frank finally has netted his fish.
A nice 6 lb plus but unfortunately Randy's group leave empty handed. It was another great Bay of Quinte experience and I hope to do it again next fall.
