Muskie season may be done for me..... Nov 25th

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Muskie season may be done for me..... Nov 25th

Post by 1MoreCast »

This is my first report so bear with me. The weather looked good for the weekend (Nov 25). Head out at noon on Saturday. I get to the launch to meet the boat. We try a "new" spot advised by another fisherman at the launch, no luck there. What a great late November Saturday, the sun is shinning and not windy as hell. Start out by casting to the "spot", nothing there. Continue on, cast, troll, change bait, repeat... Found another spot that looks as if it should hold muskie, troll some more, get snagged on the bottom a few times. Was that a fish?... No not yet. Troll some more them bamm, I get a hit, is that a fish... Yes it is.. This muskie is fighting hard, it felt bigger then the 50 in the summer. The stowmaster net was already to go, the fish pulled hard, but it got to the boat quickly. With the net ready I guided it inside. One member of Muskie Canada said the the net was the holding pen for the fish, this was a geat tip, the fish was in there not spashing and trashing once it was unhooked. A few pictures later the fish was put back in the cold water. The fish was caught trolling in about 12 feet using an 9 inch grandma.
We trolled around a bit more and landed another muskie that got off right at the boat. A good fall afternoon.

Here is a humorous video of the afternoon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfLVKqo1T4s

1MoreCast,

Been starved for a musky report. Thanks for delivering. Good for you, too; that's a beautiful fish. The pic's came out so colorful and clear, so you've got a couple of nice mementos.

12' of water...that's interesting to note, but then I've not musky fished this time of year yet. Is that a "usual" depth to find them feeding now?

It's good to know the battle to the boat was on the brief side, relatively I'm sure, and the net job, dehooking and release went so smoothly. Makes a great ending to a great story.

If you do manage to get out again, please report again! :D

If I had it my way I would fish up to the 15th.. Thanks to Fish-Hawk for running a class site. The video was made by my fishing partner, it cracks my up every time he makes a video of the day. Hope to see some of you at the next Ottawa Muskie canada meeting, for great tips and such. My season was great, we did not get out enough (the wife thought to much) but still married and next year with the children older maybe a few more days out. Next ,I must win the lottery to buy a boat and a 4x4, to pull it out of icy frozen boat launches to fish till the 15th. To dream.....

Nice fish 1morecast!

Sadly for me, I had to put my boat away today :? Was really looking forward at the very least, for several days of fishing in December, but the powers that be decided against it.
