It seems jealousy is rearing it's ugly head.

I weighed that fish at home on my bathroom scale and we use that very scale to sell cuts of pork with. It's accurate to the faction of an ounce.

I can assure you jealousy is not at question here, but it might be a good idea to weigh your pork on a different scale...

Now, I am not posting this to cause a ruckus. More so as an example...

This is a 5lb 10oz largie. This was caught by my girlfriend Alyson, and weighed on a calibrated digital scale. This is exactly 5lbs 10oz.



Notice the size of the head that a fish over 5lbs has. Notice the size of the yap, and of course, the belly.

Now, for another comparison, here I am holding two 5lb 10oz fish...Alyson's fish is the one in my right hand, the other is a fish I caught ten minutes before hers.



And, here is a shot of a genuine 6lb largie. This scale was checked right after the fish, and it was dead on..



And finally, here is a fish that weighed exactly 3.5lbs, caught only two weeks ago...



Look at the thicknest that a 5+ pound fish exhibits. Look at the size of the gill plates. The size of the caverous mouth. I'm sorry, Taylor - but your fish is barely over 3 to 3.5lbs. It honestly might be time to get your bathroom scale replaced...

Sorry folks. I'm not trying to belittle someone here, but this is fringing on ridiculous, and I can't bite my tongue any longer...I'm just saying what most else are thinking. What is really funny is, is that you said the following about BBR's 5lb submission: "I wouldn't let anyone else use that scale, or the 5lb club will be over run with members."

I'll leave it at that, but I will say this - isn't meat supposed to be weighed on a certified scale - at least one that isn't meant for a person's feet?? I would think the Health Authority would have a field day on this one...

I've fished my share of tournaments where LARGE fish (5 lb's +) are routinely caught AND WEIGHED. These are professional type scales............NOT BATHROOM SCALES.

Justin's fish are most certainly genuine MONSTERS ! 5 lbs + FOR SURE !

ANd of course all of the pertinent physical characteristics that Justin points out in his post are completely bang on.

Unfortunately a bathroom scale is simply not meant for this type of weighing..........

Not to mention it's illegal to weigh & sell produce or meat products on a scale not calibrated & certified by the gov't..............but you don't need little ole' me to tell you that.......

And where is it that you sell that pork, I'll make sure to go buy hind quarter. Unless you use some of the water available close to the bathroom scale to rinse off the meat.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well my point is made here, I'll withdrawl my entry.

That fish is no where near 5lbs and it's not even me. If I looked like that, I'd never post a picture. Which is why I suspect we see no pictures from RJ.

My point goes along with Justins comments about accurate weights. Yes it's for fun, but in the end, everyone is going to take this quite serious. So be sure if you're going to submit fish that they are 5lbs. We've seen some real doozies entered so far.

I also find it intresting how the folks here love to jump on someone and throw insults. It's fine though, I have a thick skin and can dish it too. It's just reasuring to know it's the acceptable thing to do here.
