What a great night..Muskie and pike

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Beauty fish 8). So how did the Musky carve out a piece of your thumb? We could all learn something here! :D

It all happened real fast, once in the net it thrashed for a while and when it stopped I thought I had an opportunity to get the sole hook out of the top jaw , I grabbed it under the gill plate and one more thrash, thumb went in mouth and damage done  Happened in less than a second.
I'm lucky I didn't get on of the other 2 treble hooks in me

Those 1" teeth cut deep fast and quick.

Right to the bone in the fleshy underside of the thumb.OUCH

Don't do this at home

Nothing worse then a thrashing Pike/Muskie. They seem to get real good leverage when a hook is stuck in the net. At that point teeth and other hooks become weapons at the lunkers disposal. Danger, Danger, Will Robinson. :!:

Hope you are healing.

WOW on the great fishing, especially the musky, Muskymatt!

OUCH on the boo-boo, though. I thought I'd need a transfusion the 2nd time I got nailed by a tiger musky last summer. (Yeah, 2nd time, as in not learning the 1st time to be a little more careful when handling a rocket with teeth. Gotta watch the gill rakers, too!)

Hope you heal up nicely and continue to give us such fun reports & pics...maybe with a little less (of your) blood next time.

Wolf , you can bet I'll be more aware next time

I just hope I don't panic and freeze

It's amazing how strong they can lash out.

If I can't keep from getting beat up I'll have to learn how to edit the photo

Thanks

Here's one of the fish that got me last year, Matt. Not even a big guy!
Image

Doesn't look like much here, but it bled for over an hour after the cut and was literally dripping. The boat towel was soaked with blood. I'm not sure why it kept bleeding, but it was actually two small gashes. They stung pretty good, I recall! (I'd still do it again to have a musky in the boat, even a small one! And that's the TRUTH!)

Exact location as my wound wolf , I had the same result as far as bleeding, lots of it.

But, like you , I'd do that any time

I like how you made it non apparent, I'll keep that in mind
