scuro wrote:Beauty fish . So how did the Musky carve out a piece of your thumb? We could all learn something here!
It all happened real fast, once in the net it thrashed for a while and when it stopped I thought I had an opportunity to get the sole hook out of the top jaw , I grabbed it under the gill plate and one more thrash, thumb went in mouth and damage done Happened in less than a second.
I'm lucky I didn't get on of the other 2 treble hooks in me
Those 1" teeth cut deep fast and quick.
Right to the bone in the fleshy underside of the thumb.OUCH
Nothing worse then a thrashing Pike/Muskie. They seem to get real good leverage when a hook is stuck in the net. At that point teeth and other hooks become weapons at the lunkers disposal. Danger, Danger, Will Robinson.

Thanks again Matt for the experience, it is one I will not forget. It's always a pleasure man. Congratulations once again.
Next time it'll be your rod HH and I can repay the netting favor
No need for thanks Jeff ,I had a blast as well , anytime!!!
WOW on the great fishing, especially the musky, Muskymatt!
OUCH on the boo-boo, though. I thought I'd need a transfusion the 2nd time I got nailed by a tiger musky last summer. (Yeah, 2nd time, as in not learning the 1st time to be a little more careful when handling a rocket with teeth. Gotta watch the gill rakers, too!)
Hope you heal up nicely and continue to give us such fun reports & pics...maybe with a little less (of your) blood next time.

Thanks, Dad, for taking me fishing when I was a kid.
Here's one of the fish that got me last year, Matt. Not even a big guy!
Doesn't look like much here, but it bled for over an hour after the cut and was literally dripping. The boat towel was soaked with blood. I'm not sure why it kept bleeding, but it was actually two small gashes. They stung pretty good, I recall! (I'd still do it again to have a musky in the boat, even a small one! And that's the TRUTH!)
