Another personal best. (Inland lake)

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Congrats on a beauty of a fish!!! Not trying to stir the pot, but here we have a guy named muskymuskymusky holding a large speciman of another species vertically. Is this a case of "do as I say, not as I do"??? I personally don't buy into the v-hold b.s. that's going around, just curious. Is there a double standard when it comes to the v-hold???

You stirred the pot, without even trying?

I don't think an 8.5 pound fish is going to be hurt by a vertical hold, so I wouldn't worry about it.

As far as large fish are concerned, (20 lb +) why take a chance? Unless you don't care maybe?

and when did muskymuskymusky ever say anything about vertical holds? I looked through his old posts (I never met the guy), and I was struck about how positive his posts were...nothing preachy that I could see.

Guess I did stir it a bit, haha. Topraider, you mention 20lbs.+ just wondering where that number comes from??? I don't believe I said anything negative in regards to muskymuskymusky (I don't know him either) my apologies mmm if it sounded that way. I certainly didn't call him "preachy" as TR suggests. Guess I shoulda been more careful...I was pointing out that most musky guys usually DO preach about vertical holds.

As far as Topraider's comment that maybe I don't care...I guess he's trying to stir the pot a little too. I have actually contributed a lot of my own time and money to the betterment of muskie fisheries in Canada. How about you TR???

Hey Chris

I catch a lot of salmon and frequently tail them... when you pick up a large salmon over 20 lbs, you can actually hear the cracking from inside!

I picked that weight based on that experience. The weight probably depends more on species, and somewhat on the individual fish.

As for your service to muskie fishing, that's great - it leaves me a little perplexed though why you have decided that the issue of vertical holds is a lot of BS. Are you a contrarian? (Thats not necessarily a bad thing, especially if you play the stock market)
Maybe it is BS, but why not error on the side of caution? It would be a shame if a future scientific study did prove large fish are damaged by vertical holds, and in the meantime many fish were injured because they weren't given the benefit of the doubt.
